“Convenient Hotel for trip to New York”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2012

Great hotel near the subway (although it is actually not underground at this point), only a 2 minute walk away. The hotel is convenient for mid-town, only 1 stop to Lexington and 59th (Bloomingdales). Another 3 or 4 stops to Times Square. At $2.25 per subway trip it is also cheap to use and we never felt unsafe even later at night. We went from Queensborough Plaza to Statten Island Ferry Port and it was only $2.25

We had a 2 bedded room on 5th floor. Found beds very comfy. The shower was difficult to work out but a quick to call to reception sorted that out (you have to pull down the bottom of the bath tap to get the shower to work) Could hear a little street noise from about 6 am but nothing too loud that would keep you awake. Breakfast was a great bonus (toast, cereal, pastries,, fruit etc) and when any time I went to the breakfast room there were only about 4 people in there but I did my food back to my room. Found the receptioni staff extremely polite and helpful, ordered us a car back to JFK airport and it only cost $40 as opposed to the $60 the taxi charged us on our arrival!!! Also being able to use the free business centre was a bonue to check in on line and print out boarding passes.

If I went to New York again I would stay at this hotel and would recommend it to friends

Room Tip: Pay that little bit extra for a room on a higher floor

“Standard hotel with decent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2012

I'll start with, don't ever get a room on the 1st floor of this hotel. There's SO much noise from the outside streets that penetrates the walls like nothing. That was my only dislike of this hotel. Definetly would stay here again, just not on the 1st floor. Staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was pretty good, got up every morning to get some. I can also add from the other reviews that space to eat breakfast was limited in these cases, just grab what you want and go back to hotel room to eat. Location was very convenient, considering the closeness of the subways to this hotel. That helped immensely getting to the major attractions in the city, only taking about 15 minutes to Manhattan. The neighborhood seemed okay, it looked a bit beat up, but didn't feel unsafe what so ever. Walked back from the subway at 3AM to hotel, and got through without a problem. Overall pretty decent hotel, would stay here again.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are glad you enjoyed breakfast and found the location to be convenient. In regards to rooms on the first floor, we have made sure to specify these rooms as "Lower Floor" on our website as well as third-party sites. Lower floor rooms are sold at a slightly discounted rate compared to our other rooms. We hope that this helps travelers make the distinction if they choose.

“Very Convenient Great Budget Option”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2012

Great option for the budget traveler but not for everyone. The hotel is extremely convenient to mid-town, clean, well-managed and has a free breakfast (huge perk for Manhattan). The Metro is across the street and runs frequently. Time Square is 10 minute commute. The hotel is located in an industrial zone and has no personality -especially at night. It’s safe but if you want any activity, you must get on the subway. There are a couple of delis in walking distance, and if you take the train into Astoria - there is a gold mine of affordable and delicious eating options. Fantastic bargain but you have to put a little effort into the deal.

Room Tip: Ask for room on a top floor.

“First time New York travelers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2012

This hotel suited our needs, not perfect, but for the price compared to Manhattan hotels we can't complain. We always took a cab into the city, for between 11-13 dollars. Usually we rode the subway (N) back to Queensboro plaza and then walked to the hotel. Other reviews are correct, it's not the best part of town and would not be comfortable for women alone to walk at night. The drive for a cab to return to the hotel is a bit long because of the route they have to take to get around to the hotel it really added to the fare. There is not a lot of businesses around the hotel, i.e. restaurants. We did try the newer Packard Square Cafe, one block down the road past the gas station and was pleasantly surprised!! Very good prices and fresh food, they even have breakfast. Just as previous reviewers have commented the breakfast area at the hotel is inadequate in space!! We also had Chinese from a restaurant two blocks down, right next to a strip club I would have it delivered next time there were some very shady clientele!! The Chinese food was awesome with very good quality chicken, sometimes hard to come by, I think is was called Chen's. The hotel was very clean!! We would stay here again

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are glad to know our hotel served the needs of your visit. In regards to the neighborhood, it is indeed a commercial area. It is slowly changing with lots of new businesses, condominiums and hotels being developed. The neighborhood is safe and there are no heightened security concerns in comparison to other parts of New York City. Understandbly for travelers not familiar with New York, the area may seem, as you mentioned, not the best part of town, but rest assured, it is perfectly safe.

“One of the best hotel for the price near Manhattan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2012

Stayed at the Comfort Inn Long Island City for 9 days. This is a very good hotel. Heres a few reasons you should consider this hotel for

1) Location, Location, Location: For the price ($154 including tax for 3 ppl, 2 twin bed, would be around $130 or so for 2), you just cant beat the location, one stop to Manhattan. It is just a block away, 2 min walk to the Queensboro station providing 7, N and Q train access to Manhattan and rest of queens. Area is safe. There's a nice food place around the corner, you get all sorts of options for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

2) Clean hotel. In fact very clean hotel. No problem what so ever. Everything works. Rooms properly cleaned daily.

3) Free breakfast. Its not grand, but hey its free and very decent breakfast so no complaints here. You get apple/orange juice, tea/coffee, egg, bread, croissants, waffles, assorted donuts, yogurt, cereals. Eat all you like.

4) Business center is great, check your mails, get your documents printed without any extra cost. Btw, free Wifi in all rooms.

5) Extremely nice and helpful front desk people. They will go out of their way to assist you.

Over all a great hotel to stay near Manhattan without breaking your bank.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors.
