The hotel was booked by my fiancée. We were looking for a hotel near Manhattan for three nights after travelling down from Boston. We booked the hotel after reading good reviews about it.
The hotel is situated a two minute walk from the 39th Av. stop on the N/Q subway line. This stop is literally about 15 minutes from Time square, so is ideal for those looking to stay close to all Manhattan has to offer, without paying over the top prices.
The hotel itself is not in the most picturesque location, but, I would imagine most people who are visiting New York are not there to stay in the room. The room was very clean and modern, although the only downside to it was that there was no room safe. Although the beds were very comfortable, the only other downside to the hotel was the cobbled road outside our room, which created quite a bit of noise when a truck or fast moving car went up it. The hotel had facilities for keeping valuables behind reception. The hotel has a small, but reasonably well equipped fitness room for anyone who can not keep off a treadmill for a few nights (guilty!). The rooms also had free wi-fi, and free internet access and printers were available in their business centre.
Complimentary breakfast was served between 6.30 and 9.30, and consisted of cereals, fruit, waffles, bead, bagels, eggs, cakes/muffins, juices and coffees. Although the breakfast was nothing fancy it was complimentary, and there was enough to set up the would be explorer for the day. Free coffee was available, 24/7, as was a free paper in the morning.
However, what I took away from this hotel the most was the service and attitude of all the staff. From the moment my fiancée and I arrived, the staff were very friendly, immediately providing a free bottles of water and providing maps for the MTA. Any questions we had throughout our stay were immediately answered to the best of their ability and always with a smile. An example of this was when the printer had ran out of toner in their business centre when we were trying to print our boarding passes. It was late at night and instead of making us wait or telling us to come back in the morning, the duty manger pulled up chairs behind reception, opened the staff door and allowed us to proceed on the computer behind reception.
I have used this site lots before, reading reviews, but never wrote one myself. This hotel and their staff impressed me so much, I decided that I should write my first review.
