“Serious pro's and con's here...”

My husband and I stayed at The Fox and The Grapes B&B for two nights in August of this year.

Getting to the point, this b&b is lovely on the exterior, with a beautiful porch that overlooks and expansive lawn and Seneca lake in the background. My husband and I spent hours drinking wine out there watching the sun set. It also happens to be within minutes of our favorite restaurant in the Finger Lakes: Dano's Heuriger. Do yourself a favor and go there for dinner. Outstanding!

But back to the b&b, the hosts were friendly and accommodating and the breakfasts each morning were lovely.

Here's the down side: the beds. They have got to change out the beds. Our room in general was ok, with small windows and bathroom. But the bed literally dipped in the middle it was so worn. I was not comfortable sleeping either night and it spoiled the whole stay there for me.

The rest of the house was ok, definitely more "homey" than set to be a bed and breakfast.

“We stayed for two nights, and I was ready to leave after the first.”

I give this place 1.5 rating because if you can't sleep and aren't comfortable, then does the rest even matter? Starting off on the high points--the location is great, our room and bathroom was decently sized, and the grounds are spectacular with stunning views over Seneca Lake. Unfortunately, there's too much of a list of why not to stay at this place--the bed was incredibly comfortable, the street noise was loud, the shower head water pressure was practically non-existent, the small couch/settee in our room was also uncomfortable, and there was dust--lost of dust. There were a few minor other things that were off-putting, but pale in comparison to these. I'm not a light sleeper, but I barely had any rest between the lumpy bed and the loud road noise. It's easy to imagine the cycle, you finally fall asleep in an uncomfortable bed and then are woken up by the occasional Mack truck barreling down 414 in the early AM. Seeing how miserable I was, my husband offered to find a different place to stay, but I decided to suck it up. Also, we were asked to pay for our full stay when we arrived, so I didn't want to go through the trouble of trying to get reimbursed. It helped that the second night I slept with my ipod. I can see why this might be a good event space, but I can't recommend it as a place to stay. In other words, if you want to stay at a place that has great scenic views then this could be the place for you, but if you also want a comfortable, good night's rest--I HIGHLY recommend that you go elsewhere.

“Welcoming and lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

My husband and I visited the Finger Lakes region for the first time and really were blessed to have found this B&B. Jim, the Inn Keeper, was welcoming and made excellent breakfasts! We stayed in the Ophelia Suite with two sitting rooms, large closet, large beautiful bedroom and large private bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. I will recommend this B&B to everyone I know who is visiting the region, and we would love to go back and stay there again.

“Finger Lakes Hidden Secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2009

This is an old restored home. The current manager/owner keeps the place very clean and well maintained. The rooms and beds are comfortable. The bathrooms have all been renovated nicely. There is free wireless internet throughout the home. Breakfast is prepared by the owner and includes breads, juices, fruits, croissants, eggs, meats all very fresh. There is a nice large living area with a nice TV/Stereo as well as a nice porch. The location is very close to nice restaurants and vinyards.

“A wonderful place to say "I Do"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2009

My wife and I we're married at The Fox and The Grapes Bed & Breakfast. We had been planning a larger wedding for 40-50 people at a restaurant in New York City where we live. It was to be a three hour event and take place on a weekday to curb costs. When we started to get prices back from vendors and restrictions prohibited us from allowing live acoustic performances and dancing (you need a license for this in new york city) we decided to spend half the money it would cost for a three hour event on three days in the country. My wife did a simple internet search for "New York" and "Elope" and she came across The Fox and The Grapes. Well, we weren't eloping exactly. We planned to fly our immediate family members in and have a small; more intimate wedding.

I was the one who spoke to the owner Jim Pellegrini, who is also an officiant, directly. I was immediately struck by Jim's calm, cool demeanor. Our phone conversation was enough to convince me that we we're making the right decision. He sent me two emails immediately after our conversation. One email had details about getting married in New York which had the specific words that could be read at the ceremony. The other was our reservation confirmation. There we're to be a total of 10 of us and we rented out the entire B&B for two nights. The price was right, that's for sure. Immediately our wedding costs we're sliced in half. When we arrived we were greeted by Jim and his employee Rose. They immediately made us feel right at home. Once we had gotten all our bags inside Jim took us on a tour of the house. Jim gave us a solid tour that took less than 15 min and left us with no questions. The house was huge, the view was breathtaking and the grounds we're pristine. When Jim and Rose departed at about 6pm, we each picked our rooms, which we're spacious and clean. The beds we're firm and comfortable (my wife and I we're able to sleep without both falling into the center of the bed) All the rooms had AC and ceiling fans, which was nice because it was very hot out. Jim came back early in the morning to begin our breakfast. The AM meal was amazing and plentiful: lots of coffee and orange juice and Jim made a delicious quiche which had a crust made from scratch.

I went over some details with Jim regarding our ceremony while my wife was in Ithaca getting her hair done with the ladies. My wife and I had decided to hold the ceremony in the Ophelia Suite which is the largest of all the B&B's rooms. The Ophelia Suite is a beautiful sunny room in the front of the home and offered a perfect location for such an important event. We we're married at 4pm. Jim did an amazing job and we couldn't have been more happy. Once everyone had signed our Marriage License, Jim let me know that he could mail it for us, which he did, we received our certificate a few days later. After the ceremony Jim poured the champagne and we all had some wedding cake. That evening, after having dinner at a restaurant a few blocks away, we had a wonderful time hanging out on the B&B's expansive porch. The next morning Jim was back early where he began home made Belgian waffles. Another amazing breakfast and a truly relaxing meal.

Overall, we loved the Fox and The Grapes. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic getaway or an alternative to a typical wedding. Our time here ended up being memorable, calming and unique. We will definitely be coming back here for years to come.
