“A great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2007

Have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at Hotel Berulia on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia and could not fault the hotel which is conveniently placed between Baska Voda and Brela, both about a 10 minute walk away. Everyone, from the reception desk to cleaners or bar/restaurant staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to make your stay an enjoyable experience. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were lovely and we had a great sea view (lovely sunsets!).
The choice of food is good, as well as offering three different restaurants which you can book in advance. We stayed under an all inclusive arrangement and could eat three meals a day (if we wanted to), as well as a late night snack, together with all drinks (non-alcoholic, coffees/teas and alcoholic drinks) available up to mid-night. We did not see any one drunk or food wasted - everyone just took what they wanted, no more.
If we had one grumble, it was the evening entertainment which was variable. However, mini-disco for children and daily aerobic programme was good. Berulia seems more suited to couples and families and was host to a very wide range of European nationalities although English is spoken by reception, entertainment team and bar staff.
The hotel also has a blue flag beach and it certainly keeps you fit climbing all the steps back up, although the beach bar is a great place to stop to catch your breath!
Crotia is a lovely country to visit, and Hotel Berulia was a lovely introduction. We will be back!!

“Good Enough”

Every summer we go to Croatia from New York. My heritage is from there, I speak the language, and have a lot of family there. I chose this hotel for the four of us in the family. The rooms are not big and you shouldn't book here if you are going to put more than 2 people in a room. If you try to cram 3 or 4 people in a room you get a room with no balcony and there will be close to no room to walk around. The fridge was a little small but good. The buffet food was amazing though. You had so many options and it was all so good. Both dinner and breakfast were buffets and were delicious. The beach is stunningly beautiful and are great for swimming because there are next to no waves. There is great nightlife in the next town over Baska Voda which is ten minutes walking. I recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — Absolutely amazing food and nice path to the beach.
  • Disliked — Small rooms.

“Good value hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2007

I stayed at the Hotel Berulia for a week in July. Its a good value hotel in quite a quiet part of the Croatian Riviera. Not much to do there apart from sunbathe and swim, but that was fine for us. Day trips are offered to other places in Dalmatia if people are interested.
The hotel is located a short walk from two small villages (Brela and Baska Voda), both of which have some good seafood restaurants. The beach is about 100 yards (max) from the hotel down some steps - quite tiring going up and down those a few times a day.
In terms of the hotel itself, our room was fine - very clean, good bathroom and a nice balcony - also air-conditioned which was very important as it was 39C! The restaurant was ok, but nothing special. Food is quite plain, and we ended up eating out most nights. Saying that, there is a nice grill restaurant by the beach that is part of the hotel, where you can get a nice lunch. Bar area is ok (again nothing special), but has a nice terrace. The pool is too small really, and there aren't enough sun loungers - if the hotel had a better pool area and restuarant it could be 4*. All the staff are very friendly and helpful.
All in all, I would recommend this as a good 3* hotel, with just a couple of areas letting it down a little. Its set in a lovely area though, and is fine as a place to base yourself.

“Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings”

Just come back from a relaxing stay in this nice hotel - very clean rooms and surrounding areas and lovely/helpful staff. Pool a bit small and not enough parasols - not sure how this will be in the summer when it must be busier. Food/drink ok with a nice all inclusive restaurant which you must pre-book. Local town either side of hotel both about a 10 minute walk - beach areas beautiful!! The only thing was the day/evening entertainment was not great and not many children/teenagers were staying there which was a shame for our 14 year old! Although she enjoyed the week, think she may have struggled if it had been for two weeks.

“Would certainly go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2006

Thouroughly enjoyed our stay, though a week was not long enough. The hotel was very clean and tidy, the rooms comfortable and roomy. though when you book make sure you get a room with a balcony, We were given one without at first and the view was of the car park and we felt claustrophobic, but the management were very helpful and allowed us to upgrade for about £50.
The food allthough not cord en blue was tasty, plenty of choice and as much as you wanted.
The swimming pool though small was clean with plenty of sun beds, we found it a bit too hot around the pool with temperatures up in the 90s and very little air movement it was a little stiffling. We spent most of our time down on the beach were there was a little more air. The sea was clear and lovely to swim in. The only thing is you need to be pretty fit to climb the 100 or so steps. in fact there are a lot of steps in the hotel. we had 5 flights of stairs from our room to the top of the beach steps.
The entertainment was very good and the animation team excellent, though the seating was a little uncomfy, hard backed chairs around tables
We went on several trips that were well organised and reasonably priced, the highlight had to be the white water rafting, some spectacular views of the mountains on either side of the river.
There were a lot of germans there but you did not need to fight them for the sun beds. I would not recomend it for children there was very little to keep them entertained.
We would certainly go back again.
