“Very average............”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

The service at reception was very good but you will like this hotel if....................
- you are German or from an east-European country, we were two of five English people there
- you like average continental food, we preferred to eat out
- you like a buffet style where your plate is removed seconds after you finish eating
- you like "reserving" your sun bed by the pool early in the morning
- you like cosy rooms with limited space for storage
Brela is better than BaskVoda for food and drinks.

“Very good hotel with perfect location, but little bit overvalued”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

The hotel has perfect location between 2 villages: Brela and Baska Voda - 5 minutes walk to both sides. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The beach is 100 meters from your room, but it is really crowded and it is impossible to find the place in the shadow. An option is to rent a sun bed (25 kuna) and an umbrella (25 kuna). The room service was good, but the room was quite small for the price they charge. Breakfast menu was the same every morning. We did not take half board, but we tried hotel dinners couple of times - nothing special and you have to pay for the drinks. I would recommend not to take dinners in the hotel and walk to the villages for different fish restaurants. The price is more or less the same: dinner for 2 people with a starter, 1 liter of local wine and 2 fish/seafood dishes will cost you about 250-350 kuna. Lobster 1kg - 600 kuna.
Hotel bar is expensive and for the cocktails I would recommend to walk 3 minutes to the beach bar, which works in the evenings as well. There is some night life in Baska Voda: couple of cocktail bars and one beach night club.
If you wish to visit Makarska, Split, Trogir and Omis, the best option will be to rent a car and hotel staff can help you to do that.

“Outstanding location, pretty good hotel”

My fiance and I recently stayed at the Bluesun Berulia for a few days. Its location can't be beat, which justifies the high price tag. We were also there at the height of the holiday season, and the place (and all places in Brela) was packed with Croatian families enjoying the beaches. At first we were given a "seafront" room that was actually a row back and looked out at the sea over a couple of A/C units, but when we complained we were moved to a much better room in the annex building next door. Our balcony looked directly out over crystal clear blue water. We spent our time either there or down on the pebble beach. The hotel has a good pool and terrace but we were too busy relaxing on the beach itself. The breakfast (included) is good - a big buffet with enough selection to satisfy anyone. The rooms are nothing fancy and the king bed was actually two smaller mattresses side by side, like in many European countries. But we were there for the view and the beach, and those absolutely did not disappoint.

“Excellent location, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2010

We spent one week at the Berulia. Very friendly and helpful staff, perfect location midways between Brela and Baska Voda where there were plenty of restaurants, bars etc. Ten minutes walk to either one. Good beaches right next to the hotel. We had half-board (buffet breakfast and buffet dinner). Tasty food with a fair variety of choices. Only negative: Drinks at the hotel were quite a bit more expensive than in the village-restaurants.

“Excellent hotel in great location.Super Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2009

This is a fabulous hotel for a sun holiday for a couple or family in a really stunning location 20 seconds from a beautiful, clean, white pebble beach with crystal clear water and a really cool beach bar. The hotel is located between Brela and Baska Voda in an area that is quiet enough for those who want to rest, but 10 mins stroll (and I am 6 months pregnant, so I mean gentle stroll) along the beach to either Brela or Baska Voda. BUT- I would warn those with mobility issues that this whole area is located on the side of a mountain and so there are LOTS of steps not only in this hotel, but in the area as a whole. Those with buggies or wheelchairs would suffer. If you are determined, try the Soline hotel which is closer to beach level.

The hotel staff from the outset were extremely helpful, welcoming and relaxed, despite our last minute booking in peak season. (Note- I was able to bargain a lower rate than originally quoted with the hotel on the phone.) Like the rest of the area, the hotel was immaculately clean. I didn't see one mosquito or cockroach. Indoor and outdoor was kept spotlessly neat and tidy. Breakfast was included in our room rate. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with a range of hot food including pancakes, omlette, bacon and fried veg, cold food incluing cheeses, fresh and tinned fruit, various breads, omlettes, donuts and biscotti. We took our coffee to the terrace overlooking the pool before heading down the steps to the beach each morning. Beach towels are provided by the hotel (on refundable deposit) which you can refresh each day if you wish. The pool seemed to be freshwater, rather than chlorinated so the swallows swooped in for a drink every so often. At the bottom of the steps to the beach a small grill served lunch and drinks til about 4pm in the shade of the pine trees overlooking the sea. The food there is lovely. This is a nice spot to seek shelter at lunchtime.

Although we weren't that interested, there was occasional evening entertainment, not loud enough to disturb. There was also an activities schedule for kids in the hotel, an although not advertised, a little playground near the bottom of the steps.

All in all I would highly recommend this hotel (with noted exception to those with mobility difficulties) and myself and my husband hope to return again soon!

A note for any Ryanair travellers - the Zadar airport is only 2hrs drive on the motorway, but about 4.5 hours if you get the public bus. I'd advise hiring a car (Avis,Hertz,Europecar all have offices in the airport) to get to and from the airport, but book well in advance as none were available when we tried in July. A taxi from Berulia hotel to Zadar costs €180. Taxis in Croatia are expensive.
