“Always a great experience!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Since the early 90's i have been goin to the LP for New years checkin out various hotels and even renting a 3 million dollar home on the lake , but im set in stone on the Golden Arrow! Smack in the middle of town it's right on the money, sure your going to read mixed reviews here and there , you cant satisify everyone all the time . The sad part for me is that i didnt go to LP this year for new years we went to Killington instead ,fun town but nothing like LP, i so miss Whiteface it's the Best mountain on the east coast , no where else can you get the Full vertical of the mountain in basiclly 1 continuous run, and WF has the greatest vertical this side of Colorado!
Jenn and family are friendly and courteous and always makes us feel like home when we stay there never an issue always consistantly perfect. , im just tryin to rub nickels together and trying to get a few days off of work so i can get up there. c ya soon

Dear Rick,
Thank you for your review! It is truly a pleasure to have return guests such as yourself become apart of our Golden Arrow family. We agree that Whiteface is the best Mountain in the East, and there is a winter storm warning for this evening!
Thanks again from all of us here at the GALR!

“A wonderful stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Golden Arrow this past weekend and we found it quite charming. We stayed in a specialty suite and it was lovely! Of course the view was spectacular, but the bedding was pretty and comfortable and we had no issues with the HVAC or mini-fridge. We really liked having a heating control in the bathroom so we could keep it warmer when we showered. The fireplace, complete with a supply of dura-logs and the whirlpool tub were great too. Clearly the owners are trying to keep the facility as up-to-date as possible - especially with the volume of guests they have. We took advantage of the pool and hot tub, which were really warm for as cold as it was outside. The underground parking was fantastic as we didn't have to clean the car every morning. We liked their "green" practices, which included a brown bag in our suite to recycle our bottles and papers - something which I haven't seen another hotel do.

Now, for the staff. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful to us. Cindy, our housekeeper, was so warm and friendly. The front desk were responsive to our questions and even metered the postcards I wanted to mail so I didn't have to go crazy searching for stamps. We called to request more towels and another dura-log and they were at our door within 10 minutes. All of this, and the hotel was completely sold-out one of the nights we stayed!

It was a bit of a maze go through the property but it was really nice being able to walk out right into the shopping area. It brought us up to street level which was very convenient in near-0 degree weather. The Generations restaurant was quiet when we went for dinner, though it was a bit pricey.

In general, this was our third time visiting Lake Placid and of the three hotels we have stayed in, we really look forward to returning to the Golden Arrow!

Room Tip: If you are looking for a quiet, romantic weekend then request a fifth floor suite. We were told that...

“Mixed feelings-overall positive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My daughter and I stayed here for a skating trip. We stayed in one of the suits, which appeared to be much nicer than the standard room. On the plus side: nice room with light pine furniture, good soundproofing, attractive black out curtains that worked, working fireplace, overall very comfortable. We really appreciated their efforts at being "Green" and for us that made the stay that much more enjoyable. The hotel restaurant was very good, which was especially nice because it was so cold (yes, I know, Lake Placid :) ). The pool area was also nice. The cons: the housekeeping was very inconsistent- some days good, others horrible. The hotel's public area's look worn. Most disturbing was the complete lack of presence of the staff. The people behind the front desk hid behind it- there was no "face" to the hotel. In their defense, there were large groups with children (ours and hockey groups) and it must be frustrating to deal with people who let their kids run rampant unsupervised all over the place, but in my opinion, all the more reason to make the staff more visible.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suit.

Dear Guest,
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your room during your recent stay. It is true that the Hotel becomes very busy with families of Hockey teams this time of year, which is why our desk staff has at a minimum 2-3 people working all day long. I am so glad to hear you appreciated our "green" efforts. Much thought and planning has been placed into these initiatives to hopefully enhance our guests stay, while being kind to the earth at the same time.
As far as your housekeeping complaints, it would be much appreciated if you could forward me any more information, so that I might be able to discuss with our Housekeeping manager and staff. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Thank you for your review. We hope to see you again, until then we wish you happy and safe travels.

“Great location, but hotel is dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The best thing about this hotel is the location, right on the lake and in town, close to shops and restaurants. The ski hill is 9 miles away.
This was probably a great hotel in 1980, when the Winter Olympics were held.
Now it's dated, rooms have very old and noisy heaters/AC, old couches in the front desk area, old carpets.
The pool is good sized, and has 2 hot tubs and sauna, but the lockers have no hair driers, only one shower with no shampoo or soap/body wash. The towels were gone in the first 5 min and we had to wait for one hour to get a fresh batch from the laundry room.
Definitely not a 4*, between 2-3*.
But the town Lake Placid itself is very pretty, quaint and the ski hill is awesome.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review. As always, we appreciate your feedback, I have contacted our Housekeeping Manager, and they will be installing hair dryers in the pool area right away. The showers in the pool do have bulk soap and shampoo dispensers in them, so in regards to your comment, I am assuming they were out, and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.

We are in the process of buying all new furniture for the rooms that have not already been outfitted, and I'm sure you could see from your recent visit that we are also doing many renovations to the Hotel, and we have not even approached our shoulder season yet.

I hope we will have a chance to serve you again in the future. Until then, we wish you happy and safe travels.

“Lake Placid Circa 1980”

Our recent stay at the Golden Arrow Resort was a bit disappointing. We stayed for one night and were excited about the prospect of having so many amenities in one place. We found the beds in the room to be of extremely poor quality. The rooms were clean, but VERY uncomfortable to sleep in. The only place we tried was Roomer's NightClub which we found to be FREEZING and slightly creepy. The front desk was not a huge help to us as were trying to find the nightclub. Directions of "to the end of that hall" brought us up and out to the Alpine Mall. I would probably never stay there again, as I felt the price was a little much for such an outdated hotel.

Dear Guest,
I am sorry to hear of your recent disappointment while staying with us. My apologies for your difficulty sleeping, we have just recently purchased all new pillow-top beds for our deluxe rooms, which have been receiving great feedback. I'm sorry you found them uncomfortable.

We are constantly renovating all areas of the resort. We currently have multiple capital improvement projects going on including installing new guest room doors on one floor, renovating the hallway on another, and replacing bedding in all of our suites and specialty rooms. All that and we haven't actually gone into our "shoulder season" yet, where the real work begins.

As for Roomers Nightclub, it is attached to the Hotel but privately owned and managed. I will certainly forward your concerns to the owner. Although, in their defense of your comment that you found Roomers "creepy", it is a Nightclub, and is advertised as such, which may not be for everyone. I would suggest Straight Shot Lounge for any guest looking for a quiet, relaxing glass of wine or beer.

As always, we appreciate your feedback. Thanks for your review!
