“Swiss Acres?? More like Green Acres!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

Once you book Swiss Acres, you've booked it. The cancellation policy is some what sketchy. They don't refund your deposit and expect you to pay up front. Red flag!

We were told we would be shuttled to Whiteface Mountain Ski resort, but after checking with the front desk, we were told there was a shuttle service, but they could not promise the bus would stop here. Talk about being left out in the cold. We were advised to walk next door to the Price Chopper to ensure a shuttle to the ski resort. We ended up driving our selves.

Next the room. Ok it was basic and we were ok with that, but the heater/air conditioning unit was located right beside the head of the bed. There was no thermostat. so you had two choices, on or off. If you chose on, it was so loud, you couldnt sleep, if you chose off, it was so cold, you still couldn't sleep.

The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, in our lives. It was springy and sooo soft, our backs were sore for the remainder of our stay. Which to our dismay was three nights!!! Of course with their refund policy we had no choice but to stick it our and make the best of it.

After a terrible nights sleep we were looking forward to our breakfast that was "included" with our room. We handed in our coupons and were told to have a seat. The " waitress" handed us some menus and we told her we had breakfast included with our room. She told us to order off the menu, Great, looked promising, but as she was walking away, she off handedly told us that "oh but if you order off the menu you get $2.99 off your bill."
Aww we thought breakfast was included. We inquired what the breakfast was that was included with our room. She told us eggs and toast. We said fine, we will have eggs and toast. We ordered our eggs over hard, and were informed that they only offered scrambled eggs, but you got your choice of white or whole wheat toast!!

When she brought the coffee, it was stone cold. I mentioned this to our "waitress" and she responded rudely that " I will have to brew another pot." Ok I was fine with that.
She never did and brought me another cold cup of coffeeI mentioned again that my coffee was cold, to which she responded `I can`t help that, I just brewed it, how can it not be hot.
Then came our eggs and toast. The eggs were ok the toast sucked!!
We ate our scrambled eggs left our toast and cold coffee and went to our room and promptly ripped up our remaining breakfast vouchers. The service was appaling and the waitress was incredibly rude!! We would not eat there again, out of sheer principal or offered us a free meal.
In short, do yourself a favour and don`t stay here!! Zero period. We would not recommend this place even if we didn`t like you LOL!
It is money well spent to stay at another place.!

“Stay away from the restaurant!”

Don't know about the hotel as we did not stay there. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant (Mr. P's). One of the worse meals we ever had. The place seems to be run a shoestring, it took 45 minutes to get a burger out. The blue cheese used on our burger should have never made on anything edible. It was way past its prime and we had to scrape it off to manage to eat the burger. You think it's hard to screw up a burger? Think again...
Given the comments from the other tables, we weren't the only ones having the same experience. Stay away at all cost!

“Rip off”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

We rented a chalet at this establishment.

To start with upon arrival we were overcharged from what we were quoted. We were tired and anxious to get into the chalet, but when the girl at the desk said the total I protested and told her she had not taken the discount off. She argued and I was tired. I waited until I could check my confirmation in case I was in error. I expected to receive a proper bill when leaving and wanted to discuss it further. However when we left this morning there was no one at the desk. So I just wrote an e-mail and the manager replied that I had been given the wrong rate although I had checked with 3 different people there before booking. In short, they ripped me off.

The chalets are very nice and everything is wood and renovated quite nicely. There are new taps, quaint lamps with hunting and fishing motifs and hand crafted wood furniture, new light fixtures and ceiling fans, a TV. The water was hot and plentiful and space was adequate for 2 with a loft that would be good for kids. There was a nice balcony and picnic tables that we enjoyed. However there were very few dishes or pots n pans. Dinner cutlery had to be washed in order to eat dessert. The stove and fridge were grimy – fortunately I travel with cleaning supplies. The toilet ran, the bed was a queen but the sheets were double so they wouldn't stay on the bed and worst of all I do not think the place had seen a vacuum all year!! But they do leave you a broom! I moved a small table and there was an accumulation of dirt and grass a ¼ inch thick – it’s November!

Yes I could have called housekeeping and complained. No, I shouldn’t have to!

We never took breakfast. The Lake Placid Price Chopper is great. A free trolley runs from there out to the ski jumps every ½ hour.

It was a lovely chalet but the dirt turned me right off from the get-go!!! It is too bad because there is tremendous potential.

“Clean, Reasonable, Good Location, Accept Dogs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2010

We stayed in the back end of the property in a building like a huge Adirondack cabin. It was clean and adequate with a cute Adirondack decor. Although a little more than we would like to pay for a smallish room, we were just looking for a place to spend one night and were thrilled to find a place that would take our dog for the$15 per night extra. Well worth it. We had no problems. The location is wonderful. Right down the street from one of our favorite restaurants, the HoJo. The desk personnel were professional, cordial and friendly. The location is pretty perfect because it is right in Lake Placid, but you can easily avoid the traffic in the center of the village if you don't want to go through the village on the way to a hike in the Daqs. But If you do want to go into the village, you're right there.

“OK for a night if you get a good price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

This place is no house of horrors as some may have described. I was hesitant at first to stay here having read the reviews beforehand.

To start with the good first: the lobby decor is quite quaint and the same can be said for the restaurant. Breakfast is free but includes only toast+eggs+coffee but I found it sufficient to get me going. Internet was also free.

The bad: we stayed in the rooms in the upstairs which are very close together. The room doors have a natural tendency of swinging open in the narrow hall way. The problem is with noise as voices reach into the hallway and into your room. Interestingly enough Swiss Acres has a "quiet hours" policy after 10pm. And they failed to enforce this rule with their giant "Whiteface Suite" at the end of the hall that was throwing a party. I went down to inform the staff but nobody was in the lobby. C'est la vie. The party did eventually quiet down into the night.

Also: small bathroom + small tv + low ceilings + missing smoke detector.
