I decided to visit Lake Placid only three months ago. The hotels that I originally wanted were all booked up. This is when I stumbled across Cobble Mountain Lodge's website, where I then booked a room for three days. I arrived in Lake Placid early in the morning and just was driving through the center of town. About a minute out of town I drove past the lodge! I couldn't believe how close it was to town! The view was great too. You are across the street from a golf course and you can see Whiteface MTN from the lodge as well. It is nice and quiet here. Your lodge includes a fridge, free wifi, ac, heat, and mine even had a stove. You can camp out by a fire in the back of the lodge if you wish. This place is also pet friendly. I was even allowed to check in earlier than 3 pm which was very nice of the staff to allow me to do so. I will book the same cabin when I visit Lake Placid again in the winter. You cant beat the prices and the great location of this place. The only bad things about my stay at the lodge was the outside of the place could have been cleaned up better. There was an old wooden door on the camp fire wood pile (didn't know if I should have threw it in the fire or not), an old rusty red bike sitting around, and a lawnmower covered with a truck liner. These were outside...so again it didn't hinder my decision to stay here again during my next visit.

We have been staying here every June for years now as we hike with 20 or so friends and Cobble Mountain is or WAS or place. We knew the owner Gar and liked his handyman Scott. The place felt like home to all of us. Then in 2009 we were greeted by the new "manager" Frank. This guy wouldn't return our calls and would not let us speak to Gar. He was the biggest a hole and had no idea how to run a business. Everyone in the group could not believe we now had to deal with him. Needless to say we have chosen a new place to stay and no longer use Cobble Mountain.
I really miss the place though and hope Gar comes to his senses and gets rid of Frank. Gar, if you see this please think long and hard about Frank because he is ruining your great place.

We highly recommend staying here. Our cabin was spotless, sleeping accomodations were very comfortable. The service was great as well. We spent two nights, we enjoyed a bonfire the first night; it rained the second night but we were able to pick up a free dvd to watch from the front desk. They also have a sauna, although we did not get a chance to use it other couples staying there said it was great. We also had a wonderful view of the golf course and mountains

This was nearly a five start rating but fell just a little short. The good: Very comfortable and nicely furnished place to stay with a small family (my wife and kids 15 and 12) -- no problem doing a week here. They take well-behaved dogs!!! Our bedroom was comfortable -- beds were fine. There is a full, modern kitchen (though it lacks sufficient glasses, cutlery, etc. -- though we could get by). The gas fireplace would have been quite appreciated in cooler times. Wi-fi was a big plus for our family and they even had a large flat screen TV (though we never turned it on. Perhaps the best single feature was the expansive loft with two beds that our kids really enjoyed, and was bright and cheery. The not so good: Kitchen table was a little big for the floorplan, the futon (a/k/a living area couch) was not terribly comfortable and the bathroom was better for a nice jucuzzi than a quick shower -- really pretty small complaints. We stayed in Cabin #18 and would ask for it again. Price was right given spaciousness (not having the family trip over one another is worth some $$) and the ability to cook in when desired. It was also just outside of town -- not a walk, but a short bicyle or car ride. The door lock could have used a little graphite, though CML seemed to be employing a fair number of people to maintain the facilities. All and all, is was nice to hike, paddle and bike hard during the day and come back to a comfortable spot like this (even if it was a bit of a splurge for us.) We will likely stay there again when we visit Lake Placid.
