This hotel is old and tired. The parking on a busy weekend is inadequate. The front line staff we encountered was either incompetent, befuddled or disinterested. That being said, the housekeeping staff did a very good job with what they had to work with. The location is good if you like to walk to restaurants, which we do, but if you prefer a more relaxed, quiet environment, this isn't the place.
The room was as promised - a lakeview king kitchenette. The bathroom was small but clean. The living area kitchenette is adequate and appeared to be clean, although the light is so dim, it might not have been. The bedroom, although small, is the best room in the suite with a gorgeous view of the lake. It would have been nice to have a chair or two near the window so one didn't have to stand to look at the lake, but the room is too small. The carpet had too many holes. The really horrible thing about the room was the couch; it had very scary stains on it but worst than that was what was under it. My husband questioned why it was strangely placed in the room; fortunately he didn't show me until the morning we left the vomit-like substance under it.
Had I been more familiar with Lake Placid (beyond knowing it is a former Olympic site in the center of the Adrondacks), I might have recognized that the picture on the web site is of the city itself, from the water, with the property nestled in the back. I might have recognized that the low price was an indication of a (lack of) ambiance and age. I should have realized though that when a lakeview room has no balcony, it might be an indication that the hotel is maybe on a busy, noisy street.
Because we are flexible people and because we couldn't find another place to stay that wasn't frightfully expensive, we stayed, although if I had seen the vomit-like substance, I likely wouldn't have. If you want a place to stay at a good value, this is the place.
