“We went with high expectations after reading these reviews, and Aggie still exceeded them in every way!”
My girlfriend and I went to Lake Placid for a winter getaway - this was our second time traveling there. We wanted to ski, hike, explore Lake Placid, and just retreat from the city. We chose Winterberry after reading numerous excellent reviews and also considering the unbeatable price.
We felt right at home after arriving at Aggie's on New Year's eve. Her house is very cozy and rustic (and she remodeled it herself - the house is over 100 years old) and it has three very cute themed rooms, each with a private bathroom and thermostat. The girlfriend immediately fell in love with the place.
Besides cooking a wonderful and hearty breakfast every morning (we were lucky to sample 5 different breakfasts during our stay), Aggie also prepares the fireplace daily with tinder and kindling so that you can warm up and watch TV if you like. One night, we even made s'mores on the fire. Aggie is also really knowledgeable about Lake Placid, and she can tell you more than you ever could learn by staying at a hotel.
Your tastes might be different, but the girlfriend and I found it to be incredibly romantic. Being slightly off the beaten path in Lake Placid, but not too far away, is the perfect spot to retreat into privacy after a long exciting day of winter sports. The rooms were really clean and we never had anything to complain about.
Book early, since there are only 3 rooms and the holidays and long weekends fill up quickly. We'll definitely be back every year.
