“Rude and confusing check-in twice in 10 days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

people found this review helpful

We enjoyed the hotel itself and would recommend it if you can get past the confusion at the front desk. We had two separate reservations a week apart for just two days each. Both reservations were impossible for the desk clerk to find, and we were told both times that they had no rooms. We were also told they found us a room - after waiting 30 minutes! This is all very distressing when you have flown 15 hours to beautiful Gambia and know you made a reservation. The second time this happened near the end of our stay, we left Senegambia hotel and went to the Kairaba hotel nearby and had a wonderful visit with very organized check-in, CREDIT CARD payment (cash only for Senegambia), and a beautiful breakfast bar that exceeded Senegambia.

Room Tip: Rooms are all very different so ask for what you want.

“The hotel itself is just about passable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The hotel itself is just about passable with the staff being very pleasant & courteous, however the efficiency does not quite match the manners. The surroundings are quite pleasant with monkeys, birds & dogs roaming around wherever they choose. The two pools are ok but with blaring music most of the day from the pool bar stiffeling any relaxation it was difficult to switch off, however the other pool was alot quiter but always difficult to get a sunlounger due to everyone doing the usual thing of leaving towels unattended even though it clearly stated not to leave towels on sunloungers (even the staff ignored this one!).
The main concern of this hotel are the rooms, they leave alot to be desired & even when a plumber came to repair a loose tap in the bathroom, it immediately after use came u/s again. we got fed up calling for things to be replaced or repaired, it became quite embarrassing. The very first evening we arrived there was a Gala ball held in the grounds ( allegedly every 3 weeks) that went on until past 4am, The music blared out & even other hotels around the area were complaining, the new guests knew nothing about until we arrived, this was notified in small print & not by any staff or rep.In summary if anyone is thinking about staying at this hotel then be very careful & do some serious homework, we wasted 4 days of a 7 day holiday trying to get things sorted until we eventually found another hotel.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel

“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We turned up unannounced at this quite large hotel & had a ball. The rooms are sufficient although the bathrooms could do with a tidy up. Still, relative to price, just the job. Located at the end of the main Senegamia strip you are right in the heart of holiday land. The grounds & pools are great with an abundance of birds & monkeys & even a vulture feeding thing each day at 11 am, really cool. As ever the climate in the Gambia for Winter sunshine is superb but beware, the fact that the rooms are surrounded by a lot of trees etc makes for a lot of mosquitos. The gift shop in the hotel is the best I've seen in the Gambia for selection & price. An excellent enterprise. If you're staying at the hotel in December the festive decorations are great & there were carol singers too to get you in the xmas mood in 30 degree plus heat. Food is fine. Overall a brilliant stay, located on a brilliant bit of the Atlantic Ocean too - great waves!

Room Tip: Go for the best you can afford.

“First time in The Gambia and will not be the last! :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

After one week in Kololi My husband and i can honestly say it was the perfect winter sun holiday for us...I shall try and keep this review to the point...Firstly for anyone that is looking for a resort that is up to European standards stay in Europe...this is Africa and most gambians literally have nothing BUT this does not reflect in the hotel nor in its staff & their personalities...they are warm & friendly, polite & very helpful. The standard of the Senegambia Hotel was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The bedroom was ideal for us one double bed(two singles together)which was very comfortable & extra pillows not a problem from Betty the cleaner, and an extra single bed, dressing table, two wardrobes, drawers, shelves, safe, fridge, the bathroom was fine although i am not a fan of shower curtains i was a fan of free flowing warm water...there was also a small terrace with table & chairs...aircon & fan. Betty the cleaner kept our room perfectly clean all week...linens & towels changed daily...pool towels provided & a freindly chat & smile every morning. I did take a travel hair dryer and as they do not provide these in the rooms it was handy...although i find i like to give my hair a rest on holiday and used it once or twice! Breakfast was amazing everything you could want...fresh, freshly cooked, plenty of options, tables laid up, clean & staff attentive when required...mostly outside when the few birds hop about looking for scraps...we arrived most mornings between 8.30am - 9.00am and never had a problem finding a table outside as the sun came up...simply a lovely start to the day. We spent the first day on the beach which was fine, planty of beds & brollies, a waiter walks around taking drinks orders...this is not a private beach although most locals stay clear u do get the occassional person offering services but this shouldn't put you off. Walking on the beach can be a bit of hassle as the local bumsters (as their known) will approach you to try and get them to use them to take you on tours etc but please note they do not get offended when you politley say their services are NOT required. The pool area is immacuatley clean as is the pool and yes sometimes it is an advantage to befriend the local pool guy(what a nice person) and pop him a few dalasis to sort some beds out in a good spot before you arrive...although i have to say we are not the type to expect our beds to be kept indefinately and always arrived straight after breakfast...not like some! bit cheeky really! It was a nice to change not to have lots of kids running around screaming this did add to the relaxing atmosphere in the hotel. The terraced area near the pool is the ideal location to take a break from your sunbed and have a spot of lunch, the food is cooked in an open air kitchen...very clean...and the service on the whole was great..once you relax into the gambian way of life you realise nothing really needs to be rushed after all you are on holiday! The food was great quality and very tasty. The toilets around the pool area were always clean and well maintained. The layout of the hotel is fab...small two storey blocks with lots of grass, trees and vegetation in between so it was always a pleasure to wander around and watching out for the wildlife...monkeys...loved them. There were plenty of maintenance staff onsite keeping the grounds clean, tidy & watered. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were a credit to the hotel. We did not eat in the hotel in the evenings so cannot comment on this and occassionly had a drink at the bar...sadly the cocktails were below par! We decided as we were b&b that we wanted to experience a more varied cuisine...we had some amazing food and 6 out of 7 nights were fab. The best was without doubt the Green Mambo in amongst a relaxing leafy setting just outside to the left of the hotel, fresh food cooked infront of you...Chillis Italian/Pizza again outside the hotel and great for food & late night cocktails/drinks & live music...African Queen for a lively atmosphere...these were the best by far! The food was cheap as were the drinks and the atmosphere was not spoilt by crowds of drunken young adults...although after a few cocktails at Chillis we did help the musician out on the odd song! We did a 4 in 1 tour with a local company called ARCH TOURS...it was an amazing day, the guides were brilliant & NOT boring, everything was well catered..food & drinks and the day certainly opened our eyes a little wider to the real Gambia...thankyou to Amy & Bob..top marks :) The weather was superb and by halfway through our holiday we had already concluded that we would be back in jan 2013. I am 36 my husband is 50 we are outgoing people who wanted to have a relaxing week away with friends...get a suntan...eat good food...have a few drinks....JOB DONE!
