“DO NOT STAY HERE!”

We booked several rooms while passing through on a family vacation. First of all, despite making reservation for 4 rooms a month in advance, rooms were not together and were on seperate floors. Very inconvenient for family with small children. Rooms smelled moldy/musty and aggravated allergies of several family members. One night we thought we could deal with. Next morning we planned on EARLY departure. When getting up at 6 AM to shower, we discovered that our shower did not drain. Tried to call front desk 3 times with no answer. Finally Night Manager answered. He came up, reaking of cigarettes with a plunger. No help. He left and came back with Draino. Also didn't work. Told us that maintenance wouldn't be in until later. We asked where we could shower. He told us that it looked like people downstairs were getting ready to leave -- we could shower in their rooms when they left. We asked if it would be cleaned after they left. "No" he replied. The maid wouldn't be in until after 11 AM. Then he launched into a story about the maid coming in yesterday -- was VERY drunk and caused him and the maintenance man to clean the rooms. Why would we need to know this??? Too much information!!! When we complained, we were assured that the owner would call us and correct the situation. Apparantly even though he was the "night manager" he had no authority what-so-ever. We had to leave to keep on schedule with other reservations. The manager/owner never called us back. I called and spoke with Manager who politely listened to what happened to us and told me that the owner would be calling me to discuss "Jeremy" -- night manager. Owner never called me. I called back the Manager -- she was very cold and distant, saying that owner said he spoke with me already and there was nothing they could do. This was a LIE, owner and I never spoke about this bad experience. When I continued to complain and ask to speak with the owner, the manager hung up on me. Talk about bad for business! We will NEVER stay here or in another Rodeway again. This was a terrible experience. Avoid having this happen to you! DO NOT STAY HERE.

“Stay away!”

I came with my children and grandchildren and booked three rooms for four nights. The second night at eleven, after I had already gone to bed, there was pounding on my door. It was the manager herself demanding that we leave because of the noise my grandchildren had made in the afternoon! I slammed the door in her face. Next thing I know, the state police and town sheriff show up! She actually called them to have us thrown onto the street with our young children! We pleaded with them to be more understanding as we had little babies and even a child with 102 fever. They managed to convince her to let us stay until the morning. We do not recommend this place for anyone with children!

“Do not stay in this hotel! Ever!”

We took this hotel room, having arrived in Lake George late in the evening with no reservation. Many of the area hotels had no vacancies, and the room, on first glance, seemed adequate for a night's stay while passing through. It became apparent during the stay that the room was just horrible. The stale smell which I thought would dissipate once the AC was on became foul. It may have been urine, species unknown. The shower basin was filthy, the towels had human hair on them, the carpet was very dirty, and when we looked under the pilllowcases, the pilllows were stained yellow.

In the morning, an attempt to bring these issues to the manager's attention resulted not only in her refusal to discuss our complaints or examine the room, but in a threat to have us arrested. This seems to be a pattern since another "guest" recently reported this same threat in a Google review. I cannot believe that Choice Hotels, the chain which includes Rodeway Inn, allows this situation to exist.

Do not believe any of the more positive reviews posted. They must have been written either by the manager or by others accustomed to squalor.

Room Tip: Do not book a room in this hotel.

“A One Time Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Although my husband and I live in hotels Monday through Friday every week due to his business, this place is a one time stay only. The place is very dated and has an unusual set up for the buildings. The building that we were in had an entryway that was somewhat scary. I never take my blow-dryer with me because they are always provided. This place did not have a dryer nor an alarm clock or any clock at all. The Wi Fi barely worked. Basically the only thing that the maid did was replenish the towels. The pool was terribly filthy. This was the worse experience we have had. Having arthritis the place was not user friendly. You have to go up and down steps to get to the pool or drive.

“BEDBUGS!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

My husband and I decided to stay here because it was one of the hotels in the Roomsaver Guide for the Northeast thinking it would be a decent place to stay if it was in this coupon book. From the outside the place looked fairly neat and clean. When we got inside it was not well lit. We were on our way to dinner so we just dropped our stuff off and left. When we got back, I started noticing that things were not so clean. There was hair and gunk in the kitchen sink drain, the mop boards in the bathroom were filthy with hair, dirt, and lint that looked as though it hadn't had a proper cleaning in a long time and the toilet looked like it could use a good bleaching also. Before I got in bed to watch TV, I turned on the heater because it was damp and cool. The smell coming from it was like burning dust and ashtray. It was so bad that I had to turn it off after a minute. Now for the fun part! I fell asleep for a couple of hours, got up to use the bathroom and as I was coming out, I noticed something on a pillow. At first glance I thought it was a red piece of lint until I went to grab it and it started running across the pillow. I screamed and my husband came over and grabbed the bug and flushed it down the drain. I had never seen a bedbug before but I just thought this had to be one. We tore the bed apart and my husband found another one and disposed of it. I kept looking through everything
including under the mattress but found nothing else. My husband just figured they were some bug from outside and after about an hour or so went to sleep. The next morning, I got out of the shower and came out to see another bug crawling up the middle of the bed! I told my husband to grab it so we could put it in a plastic bag and bring it to the front desk. He grabbed it but it exploded into a little pool of blood on the sheet!! That was it! I tore the other bed apart and found another bug. This one was almost see thru but we got in the bag and I stomped down to the front desk and asked the guy if he knew what this was and he just shook his head. I told him of our experience with all these bugs and that I believed they were bedbugs. He then offered me a 15% discount! I said if "I am NOT happy and if find one more bug I will be expecting a full refund". He then said it had been at least 5 or 6 years since we've had these! I ended up with only a 20% discount off our room and was unable to find more bugs but I really didn't want to stick around any longer either. I got home and looked up bedbugs on the net and that is exactly what we had in our room. I can't believe that I left there still paying $88 and change after his big discount! What a joke!. I will be writing a complaint and looking for a full refund.
