“Old time grace , a delightful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

The Trail's End Inn is pure Adirondack pleasure. The rooms have ceiling fans but no air conditioning (not necessary, the mountin nights can be humid but reasonably cool). Despite the new flat screen TV's and wi-fi, the rooms are comfortably old-fashioned with little thoughtful touches everywhere. Breakfast is not heavy, but ample and prepared with great care. Home-baking; a creative frittata or crepe or other creation - different each day and served by a very pleasant and welltrained young staff. Keene Valley is about an hour from Burlington - including a ferry ride across Lake Champlain (but beware the ferry schedule).

Stayed with 2 friends in the Marcy Suite - spacious and clean. Close to great day hikes and lots of restaurants.

“the little inn that could”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

If you are going to be hiking in the adirondacks this fall, you will find three types of Inns (I do not include hotels which i very rarely use) The very expensive inns mostly around Lake Placid with prices easily around $500 to $800 a night, smaller Inns/B&B with prices around $150 to $300 and the more modest places closer to motels around $100.
In the second category reside a wide array of places with vastly different amenities, service and privacy.
I am personally very sensitive to the best price for the best service/privacy/confort/ calm and I am not a fan of compromise.
I have been using the Trail's end Inn B&B for the past 12 years and have always found their perfect location (in the middle of the High Peak trails) combining a rare mix of affordability, quietness, good service, and excellents breakfasts.
The latest owner has shown a keen sense of complementing the serice with some nice added touches like a complementary Keuring Coffe Machine and sweet delicious fresh muffins.
Spend a little time choosing exactly the room that will fit your needs/budget and enjoy the perfect silence of a wonderful starry night. As a suggestion, reserve well ahead of time for the best choices

“Our 2nd Trip and We're big Fans!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

Trail's End is a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing and refreshing retreat. This was our 2nd stay here and we can't wait to come back again. My favorite part of the inn is the huge Adirondack front porch: spacious and quiet with comfortable Adirondack chairs. After my stay last year, all year I looked forward to reading on this porch with a cup of tea! Watching bluebirds, chipmunks and hummingbirds on the sunny green lawn while eating a delicious homemade muffin is hard to beat! We've stayed in three rooms (2 last year and one this year) and all were extremely clean and decorated with a cozy Adirondack ambience. The beds and linens were very comfortable. Sound does carry through the walls a bit as it is an old house (part of the charm for us) but because all the other guests were so quiet we did not hear a peep at night and slept very well. The breakfasts are delicious, and there is a little kitchen where you can make tea, oatmeal, use a microwave or keep snacks you've brought in the fridge - a very helpful convenience if you sleep through breakfast or are trying to save on eating out (there's even a grill you can use outside). We loved the privacy and freedom of the place - if you need to arrive late the self check-in system lets you do this without disturbing anyone, and while the friendly housekeeping staff was happy to answer any questions I had, I felt that I could wander and lounge throughout the inn without feeling obliged to chat with anyone - a nice relaxing feel for me. Another cool aspect was that our room had it's own attached sleeping porch! Also a great place to relax. It had a fireplace as well which would be a nice treat in the winter time. Overall, I can't recommend this place highly enough! I felt much renewed after my short stay here.

“Did NOT disappoint!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2011

We traveled to the Adirondacks to get in one last ski before the winter ended, and discovered the lovely Trail's End Inn in Keene Valley. Wanting to get away from our otherwise busy, hectic lives, we sought some tranquility mixed with a little elegance, all within our very average budget. We found it.
This is a very well-kept, very unpretentious place to stay. The price was well worth it. We stayed in the Skylight room, which is one of the newer rooms in the back of the inn. There, we had the luxury of our own fireplace (we had a nice fire every evening) and our own whirlpool tub, which was delightful after a long day skiing. The room was incredibly clean (would have passed the "mother" test), and Susan put out a plate of cookies every afternoon that were to die for. (My husband laughed as we drove back to the Inn every day, as I would be saying, "I can't wait to see what kind of cookies we are having today!") Breakfast the next morning was a culinary delight- the next day's breakfast menu was left in our room every day, so we would always know what was cookin', and it never disappointed! My only complaint was that I ate too much.
We loved the accommodations- being able to stroll around the living room, browse through the book of restaurant suggestions, use the computer on the main floor, brew a cup of coffee whenever, and just wander around. We had our own separate entrance (the back rooms are designed this way), and I would have liked to have been able to walk from our room down to breakfast without having to go outside, but it was a small compromise in order to have such a lovely room.
The attention to detail was most impressive. The entire Inn is decorated in the most tasteful Adirondack ambiance, right down to the coasters on the table in the breakfast room. This place was beautifully designed, and very well-maintained. We will be sure to return some day- my only regret is that it won't be soon enough.
This is a very quiet, very out of the way place - if you are looking for alot of action, or someone to wait on your every whim, you'll want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for a place to stay that feels like the kind of place you'd love to come home too, you won't be disappointed.
