JFK has, by far, the worst airport-area hotels of any airport I've patronized. Horribly overpriced, staff unfriendly or worse, horribly hard to access, not terribly clean -- seems most have at least one and usually more than one of these issues. (LaGuardia and Newark are better on this front.) Unfortunately, JFK is also where I sometimes have to fly out of in the morning living 3+ hours to the north. This was a park-fly reservation, where the car parking while away and hotel the night before the flight were a single price. However, unlike most of these deals, the parking is not onsite. Rather, you bus to and from an offsite facility that is under serious construction. As that was not under the hotel's control, I do not subtract for that.
Tiny lobby, small rooms, no food save a couple of vending machines, and no restaurants nearby (yes, located on a side street adjacent to the Sanitation Department). On the other hand, was definitely clean (which has often not been the case in the JFK area), staff was friendly (ditto), and the menus for delivery options that the staff provided were varied (and cheaper than hotel food; we had excellent Chinese). Internet a bit poky at times.
At the right price, and in light of the competition, I'd probably stay again.
