“BEWARE. Beautiful but FILTHY + Creepy.”
The Stone Quarry House gets an A+ for architecture, but a flat out "F" for cleanliness and comfort. I would agree with another review's choice of wording... this place is creepy. We were booked into the cottage, as the main house was full, and while the building itself is an exceptional display of craftsmanship, the only "creature comforts" to be found were things that would literally comfort a creature... cobwebs, stained sheets, and a bed filled with dog hair (we still assume).
As if dirty sheets covered in hair (and I mean COVERED... the comforter looked as though it hadn't been washed in at least a year) aren't bad enough, the bed is a foam mattress, so don't expect to sink into a cozy, luxurious "B&B" night of sleep. We got a terrible night sleep, and when we awoke looking forward to a cleansing soak in the jacuzzi tub (open to the rest of the room), we discovered the jets on the tub were broken.
The towels were old and scratchy, and I found myself feeling scared to use them. There were some small soaps and lotions for toiletries that seemed okay.
Cobwebs were everywhere in the corners of the cottage... they were so obvious, I couldn't comprehend how the owners didn't see them... and more importantly... remove them. It really detracts from the beautiful structure.
Also, the owner lives on the premises with their teenage daughter, so you don't have the kind of privacy you'd expect from a B&B. This is NOT your place for a romantic getaway.
In summary, If you're intrigued with what the Stone Quarry House has to offer architecturally, I'd recommend you ask for a tour and enjoy it as a place to see.... not as a place to stay.

It is our goal that every guest leave us rejuvenated and relaxed with happy memories of their stay in Ithaca. I regret that this guest never contacted us directly with their concerns. I have no record of this guest's stay - their name and date of stay are unknown.
I launder and iron each sheet personally, and I can guarantee that there was no dog hair or stains on the sheets. We use triple sheeting or duvet covers rather than bedspreads to assure cleanliness. Perhaps this guest invited our cat into the cottage? That is the only explanation I can imagine for their comments about dog hair.
The jacuzzi is and was in good working order. I suspect this guest may have tripped a circuit breaker. We would have been more than happy to assist them had we known.
The foam mattress referred to in the review is a Tempurpedic mattress, a luxury mattress that many of our guests have requested specifically. I regret that this guest was uncomfortable.
The ecru towels were new in 2007, and are replaced when they become worn or stained. At that time, we always used fabric softener and a dryer. Recently we are offering guests the option of towels dried on the line for a more sustainable choice, but we always have fluffy towels available as well.
The cottage is a separate building, in no way attached to the main house, and the family has no contact with guests unless they come to the house and request to speak with them.
It is possible that a cobweb may have been built in a corner between the cleaning and the arrival of the guest - this is a stone cottage.
