“Old world charm and warmth in a historic Catskill Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

Just back from our annual winter stay at the Washington Irving and fell in love again. Truly wonderful to be able to escape the busy NY area and experience the old warm charm and comfort of a classic catskill lodge. The main lobby and library exude what is best about historic inn's and immediately relaxes you on arrival. Stephanie, our favorite Innkeeper, is an amazing women and her breakfast is worth the drive by itself. We love the winter at Washington Irviing but also recommend a stay in the summer months as a base for tremendous Catskill hiking. If your looking for a casual but nice dining experience check out the Last Chance Tavern in Tannersville which has a new and unique rustic bar.

Best spot in Hunter. We love you Stephanie

“A Beautiful Place only 2 hours from New York City”

We absolutely loved staying here. Close to the mountain, very cozy (not small), comfortable, romantic... Our room was great, bed excellent. We even had jacuzzi in the room. The whole interior of the inn, makes you believe that you are in one of the Jane Austen stories. Excellently matched with all the antique things, host besides taking personal care about everything in hotel, from decorations to maintenance, kitchen, which is excellent - she prepared for us in the morning fresh breakfast by our choice, is extremely friendly and kind. So close to New York, i have never been to the cuter and better place. Love it, and absolutely can't wait to go there next time. Aiming for summer too, being that there is a wonderful outdoor pool. Thumbs up!

“Charming stay at the inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights for a weekend of skiing at Hunter Mountain. The innkeeper, Stephanie, was very accommodating with our late arrival and I was very pleased with her help in purchasing lift tickets, making dinner reservations, and calling a taxi for us. Breakfast was delicious and the portions were very generous. The antiques are lovely and the room was very clean. As some have pointed out, the plumbing and flooring is a bit loud, but it was not disturbing and it is to be expected at an older property. Overall, we were very pleased and hope to return soon!

“Great for a One Night Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

We stayed one night here to do some skiing at Hunter Mountain. The innkeeper was hospitable without being imposing. The Inn had a very rustic feel to it. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was adequate and served in the dining room. We both found it to be perfect for a one or two night stay. Only complaint is that the walls were thin and plumbing was a little noisy but it didn't effect our sleep. Overall, we would stay here again.

“In need of TLC”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

These days it's hard not to be critical when you feel overcharged and under-served, but that is the case with this venue. A frosty welcome to an empty Inn, I understand these are difficult times for independent business owners, but really, if someone does actually show up and pay, make them welcome and be gracious. Bedrooms and public areas are quite run-down and the breakfast was quite sparse on content. Sorry.
