“Historic and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I LOVE, LOVE this B and B. It has an vintage/historic feel and the decor is beautiful. The host Stephania greeted us and was very sweet and kind. She helped us with maps, hiking trails and any other things we needed. WOW! AND THE BREAKFAST WAS delicious. It is true what everyone was talking about, the pancakes are soo good and have a unique, creamy taste. The fresh fuits, coffee and french toast are yummy too. My boyfriend and I stood there for 2 nights and we absolutely loved it. I HIGHLY recommend this place. We stood in room 6 which was beautifully decorated to look historic. The jacuzzi was awesome and the best part is that at night you don't hear a thing. You can sleep in complete silence and comfort. The view was spectacular and its in a great spot. Parking was easy and the beds are comfy. There was a old smell at the beginning though, but overall it was nice.

Room Tip: Room 6 is decorated nicely and has a jacuzzi.

“Nicest Inn in the Area, but not a 5 Star Inn...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

My husband and I recently stayed at the Washington Irving to check out the Catskill fall foliage. Overall the inn is beautiful. It's in a perfect location, off of a main road, but set back, so there was no street noise, and it's just minutes from Hunter and Windham Mountains. The common areas of the inn were beautifully decorated; I especially loved the bar area and the breakfast/eating area. The breakfasts were very good, but nothing to rave about - we had fresh fruit every morning, with bacon and eggs or pancakes. We stayed in a turret room in the oldest part of the inn. It was a smaller room, which was to be expected, but I'm a clean freak, and the room was definitely in need of dusting. The window shades kept getting stuck and fell out of the hooks - I would recomend getting new ones. We slept with them open in fear of breaking them. Again, overall it was a very pleasureable experience, and after researching all of the inns in the area, I'm confident that we stayed at the nicest one. I would stay there again, if I returned to the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 14 - the Bliss Carman Room - very unique, beautiful room, but pretty small.

“Perfect Place for Retreat”

The webpage offered "escape everyday life." Needing a place to get away to immerse myself in an online marketing workshop, I booked four days at the Washington Irving Inn, Hunter, NY. It was the perfect choice! The place is very clean, cosy-warm, quiet, good wifi connection, breakfast, near excellent restaurants and take-out. I made excellent progress on my project while being exceptionally comfortable!

“Lovely place; would stay again.”

Pros: terrific breakfast, excellent service, lovely building.
Cons: several windows in room 14 were missing blinds so we had bright light early in the morning. We wake up early so not a huge bother but definitely a con. Innkeeper said new blinds were on order.
Overall, very nice place and great price. We'll stay again.

“Charming B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

I had the pleasure of staying at the Washington Irving Inn for two nights in October. Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by the innkeeper, Stefania. It was a chilly, rainy day, and she graciously prepared for me a cup of tea and some cookies. As I was the only guest that night, she found some time to sit with me, and we had a lovely conversation about the inn's history and her immigration to America many years ago.

I stayed in the oldest room in the house, the Bliss Carman. It's small, but very charming. It combined the charm of old wood and sloping floors with the convenience of a small flat screen TV. The bathroom was small and basic, and needed some TLC. Overall, the room and bath were kept nicely, but their was some mold on the shower tiles. The bed was comfortable, and there were a number of windows. Unfortunately, most of the shades either were missing or wouldn't go up, so I wasn't able to enjoy the full view. There were also some lightbulbs that needed to be replaced.

Stefania works very hard to make a nice breakfast and offered me several choices. I appreciate all the effort she made to make sure I enjoyed my meal each morning.

The common areas of the inn are very dark and a little over-decorated, but it had a sort of European charm. The outside porch and grounds need some work.

Overall, it's a warm inn that met my expectations, and I would consider staying there again. Thank you, Stefania, for your hospitality.

Room Tip: There's some traffic noise...consider choosing a room not facing the road.
