My husband chose this hotel because of its renowned name, but it turned out very unpleasant experience. For a standard room we have paid 1400 pesos (US $120) per night with buffet breakfast while it's not worth even the half of that. The rooms are very old - first we were given a room with a window that does not open and a view on supermarket's parking. It smelt terrible with humidity, old carpet and furniture. Having seen that there have been many rooms with a view on the pool and big windows that open, we asked to change our room. After waiting for one hour and not willing to wait more, I decided to pick up the key of the new room myself and then return the key of the previous room. I can't say that the second room was better, the same old furniture, TV, beds with blankets that certainly date from 80's, just with nicer view and window that opens. Looks like the rooms have not been renovated since 1977 when the hotel opened.
Though they do have some renovated rooms with plasma TVs and tile floors, but according to a receptionist these have a higher price than standard, a category between standard room and junior suite. However, this extra category is not mentioned or cannot be booked neither on the website of the hotel, nor on different hotel booking websites. Probably it depends on the mood of a receptionist or pure luck.
We did not get any good sleep because of extremely hard matresses and pillows, we woke up many times because of ache in the neck and noisy air conditioning. In fact, it's impossible to sleep with the A/C turned on (see the photo attached).
The buffet breakfast was not as bad as rooms, but definitely not the best. I would have preferred to breakfast in a good chain restaurant like Toks or Chili's rather than in the hotel, but we have already paid for it. Quesadillas and eggs made in your presence were very tasty, breadrolls and pastry very fresh, but the food cooked in the kitchen like omelette, meat and vegetables did not look very good. But the worst were faded or rotten vegetables and fruits used for decoration. Would you like rotten grapefruit to be in the same tray as fresh cut melon? Is it not better to use plastic fruits for decoration if they don't want to throw away rotten fruits.
Another 'nice' feature of the breakfast - when we entered the buffet breakfast, we mentioned that it was prepaid. Nonetheless after finishing the meal, a waiter brought us a bill and spent about 20 min. to check in their system that our breakfast was paid together with the room.
In the 2nd floor of the parking many lamps did not turn on and at night it was completely obscure, so we had to move our car to the 1st floor.
The hotel is located 3,5 km from the city center which is not convenient for walking in the city center because you have to pay for parking in the center all the hours that you are outside the hotel.
All in all, very unpleasant experience, fortunately, we booked just one night and it did not spoil our impression of the beautiful downtown of Queretaro.
