Sesriem Rest Camp sits at the gate to the park, and if you want early morning/sunrise photos or the experience of being there this is your only real option. You could stay other places that require you to rise even earlier than the 5am time we did to be in loine at the gate when it opened at 5:45 so you can make the dunes by sunrise, as it's about an hours drive in.
The campsites are sand (of course), with a light/power hookup, fire platform, and we were lucky enough to have a bench at #17. The swimming pool was across from us but we never got to use it, and the showers/toilets in a building on the other side of the pool. The showers need some serious work. The sink area looked okay, but the entire building could use a facelift. Europeans sure do abuse these facilities (I say Europeans because as I looked at the registers of the places we stayed, precious few North Americans visit these places). It would be nice if they were a little more respectful. Anyway, there's a restaurant/bar that's pretty sizable, a store that carries a fair variety of products, and of course a desk where you purchase your entry tickets.
