The Lodge is now (August 2010) called the Mountain Homestead Lodge and is managed by the same owners as the nearby Desert Homestead Lodge.
On the plus side, the lodge's setting is superb, rooms are basically spotless and comfortable for a remote lodge setting and include a very small plunge pool. Tours and guides are excellent and very individual, and management staff also takes efforts to meet guests expectations.
Food is ok, but nothing special. For dinner, there is only one main course, this however is served buffet-style, so everyone can get as much as they like.
However, two things ruined the experience to some extent: First, they operate a diesel generator to run their water pump. This diesel generator started running in the first night at 2:30 am, creating an incredible and very uncomfortable noise in the otherwise absolute tranquil environment, making any sleeping very hard. Management responded to my hint and found this to be a technical fault, they then changed it to the "intended time" of 5:00 am for my second night - still quite early, even when days in the Namib desert tend to start very early too. A solar powered water pump would improve the situation greatly.
Then, restaurant staff seemed to have huge difficulties in dealing with solo travelers. Again on the first evening, they simply chose to ignore me as a solo traveler. After some time, they seated me at a distant side table, so any communication with other travelers was impossible. Also starters were only served after quite massive pleas (in the end by their chef), and they didn't manage to serve me any drinks for the whole dinner - I probably could have been a little more demanding, but after 4 or 5 retries I chose to not flurry myself more.
On the second night, the learning curve obviously had improved and service was much better, still the side table seating remained.
Said that, I wouldn't recommend this place to solo travelers or travelers who like meeting other travelers, while couples / groups can have a great time enjoying lots of privacy and solitude. I observed service for couples / groups to be prompt throughout the time.
