The Bell house is a beautiful house filled with fine old furnishings. My wife and I visited just after Christmas and were looking for a nice relaxing getaway. We arrived and were welcomed by Marilyn and her large friendly sheepdog Daisy.
The 4 days that we stayed were a mix of late-rising, relaxing in the living room or den browsing the collection of books, and short ventures out into the surrounding towns. We kept good company with Daisy, who was allowed to join us since we are dog lovers.
The house is furnished with interesting antiques and is clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Edith Wharton Room, which has a quaint attached bath with a claw foot tub and shower.
Breakfast is a real treat. Marilyn prepares some great dishes - this is not restaurant cooking, it's what Mom would make if she was a great cook. There are a number of fine restaurants within a short drive for dinner.
Hillsdale is a great location, central to a number of local interests, including Catamount Ski area.
