“Perfect location; friendly personal service; a funky fifties delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

There were 8 of us among 4 rooms for a long weekend and we all enjoyed the inn. The location is central to the area and is only a few miles from Catamount; in addition the owner Steele was very charming and helpful in recommending sights for a rainy day as well as restaurants he thought we would like. The lodge is from the funky fifties era--which only adds to its charm. We plan to return next year.

“Super Styley, Great Value, 3 miles from Catamount”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

Just got back from an impromptu stay at the Silvanus Lodge. Was blown away by the super stylish decor, have never seen boutique styling like this in a 50's country motel, except at the Roxbury Motel near Plattekill Mountain. Loved it!

The rooms have front AND back doors which is also unusual in a motel room, and allows for uninterrupted country views of a pretty field and pool from your terrace, instead of looking out at your car!

Rooms are small (and spotless) as they were built in that era, great practice for those considering the small house movement! Every item in the room was chosen carefully and lovingly by the owner who has many years experience in the hotel industry and a really fun sense of design that really tickled me pink! The bathroom fixtures were new and the corner shower had fancy European glass doors. Towels were fluffy and new.

Free coffee in the lobby by the pellet stove is a nice way to start the day. Just 3 miles from Catamount so it's easy to get an early start at the hill. As for the one complaining review on this site: we were told that the guest forced early check-in before the studio apartment was thoroughly cleaned and aired of cooking smells from the last guests. The host Steele did everything possible to satisfy the guest, and still he wrote this offensive review. That guest writes mostly complaining reviews on Trip Advisor, and I think it's obvious that Silvanus Lodge wouldn't get all the good reviews it does unless they were well earned.

“Hospitality and Location - Such a Great Combination!”

My Mother, sister and I have been fans of the Silvanus Lodge since before its name change. We attended a local sleep-away camp in the area and when coming to visit each year in the Fall, we find this to be our go-to place. Steele is such a sweet and knowledgeable owner and truly a pleasure. While it is not a 4 star hotel, you get exactly what you expect. A great room, in a great location with a wonderful host who is willing to service his guests. He lives on property so he is there to help. My family has had great times while staying at his place and we will continue to visit each Fall. Nothing better than sitting out on the patio at night, listening to crickets...sometimes even having a brief conversation with another guest.
You are a short drive from Bash Bish Falls where you can hike the trails or just sit by the waterfall, as well as eat great in Great Barrington. Silvanus is a gem right off 22 and I am proud to stay there. I never look at another when we make our plans! In fact, I look forward to seeing Steele when we visit.

“excellent value for money and located minutes from the ski slopes”

For an overnight/weekend stop, this friendly run motel was excellent value for money, clean & located minutes from the ski slopes of Catamount. The manager recommended us John Andrews restaurant for dinner which was exactly what we were looking for, a couple of miles along the road, lovely atmosphere and very good food & wine. My only gripe would be with the pillows so pack your own in the car for a better nights sleep.

“Great little motel, a bit quirky, good value for w/e ski trips.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

We just got back from a one night stay at this motel. Traveled up there from our house in the northern NYC suburbs for a week end of ski with our five and three year old. Our stay was just for a night in the middle of winter.

The physical building is really a classic (40's?) style motel, but with updates. Furnishings inside the room is actually much better than most motels, and is more in line with what you might see in a Sheraton, though much more quirky.

The room was clean, though the bathroom was somewhat dated (but I have to stress clean). I have to make a distinction here - the cleanliness was good, but the structure is definitely older, and service from the owner was excellent. Parking a bit of a hassle if you drive a larger vehicle (SUV).

One note on the minibar in the room - it was by far the least expensive minibar I have ever seen - large bottle of water was 75 cents, as was the full size candy bars.

Family friendly, and if you have young kids you can fit four people comfortably in one room with two double beds.

About a minute away from a couple of dining options in town, 5 minute drive to Catamount ski area. Free coffee in the am was great too.
