Small, but nicely done room, with all the amenities we needed. Everything was clean and in good shape. Decor is interesting and tasteful, with upbeat funky sense of humor. Back door opening to the beautiful, multi-acre lawn, surrounded by woods, is a huge bonus to the character of the Silvanus Lodge. Sunrise thru the trees was a treat. Morning coffee with Steele in the comfortable lobby was always interesting and fun. We highly recommend the place.

If you don't go expecting a five-star hotel, you should enjoy it. We had a very good summer weekend night in July. Near swimming holes, Hudson and with its own pool, we found it clean and simple.
The owner was helpful in identifying places to go swimming and to wander around. The rooms are motel-sized, ie not big, but well-maintained if a little well-worn. We would go back.

My girlfriend and I travel frequently and we always try to find smaller family owned establishments as opposed to impersonal generic chains. With the Silvanus Lodge we pretty much lucked upon a place we'll definitely return to.

The check-in process was quick & painless and Steele (the owner) is very helpful in explaining anything & everything about the motel and surrounding areas. He's done an amazing job renovating it & its a true "Labor of Love :)"

The rooms are nice & clean and to us that's the biggest thing---the bathroom was spotless!! The bed (queen) was nice and comfortably firm and the sheets & spread were freshly laundered. There was a CD clock radio & a nice big flat screen TV but the real value here is the patio that looks out over the pool, grounds & mountains. The setting is just spectacular & the pool in itself is worth the moderate amount they charge nightly. With only 9 rooms you're almost guaranteed to have it all to yourself at one point or another which was the case with us.

All in all this is a fantastic motel & even a better bargain. If you're thinking of staying in Great Barrington you may want to consider this motel. It's only 10 miles from there and on average less than half the price, way less in alot of cases.
