“A Wonderful Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife surprised me for a birthday weekend. Nancy the Innkeeper met us at the door with a big smile. She is such a warm person! She gave us a tour and her pride in having designed the B & B herself shined through. Our room was nicely appointed, the bathroom was beautiful and spacious, and the parlor and dining area were beautiful and homey. Nancy takes great care in her cooking and the breakfasts were delicious, unusual and more than enough food. We used the fireplace in the evening in the parlor and felt right at home. The location is great, just off of the trail to the Mid Hudson Bridge to Poughkeepsie across the Hudson River. Nancy's dining recommendations were perfect. We had a wonderful weekend and can't wait to go back to the Inn at Twaalfskill.

Room Tip: My wife chose Room #2 which was perfect.

“Joining the crowd of admirers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

This is just delightful. We came up the Hudson to see Hyde Park, buy some carpets at Dilmaghani, and eat dinner (twice) at CIA. This small gem was one of the nicest parts of the trip. The breakfasts were wonderful, one sweet and one savory every day, and all delicious. No siggy eggs here! Coffee and tea available always, lovely rooms, large well done bathrooms, tv's, nice living room with fireplace where we had before dinner drinks (we brought them, alcohol is not available for purchase), airy, sunny, perfect.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms and they are all lovely.

“Home from Home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

My mother, sister and myself recently stayed at the Inn at Twaalfskill. We were met by Nancy, the owner who quickly acquainted us with the Inn and all it had to offer. Nancy was very welcoming and the Inn and our room which was Number 1 was fabulous. It was immaculately clean and the breakfasts each morning were very healthy, delicious and filling. Nancy could not do enough to make our stay any more comfortable than it was. A variety of hot drinks were available all day along with cold refridgerated bottled water. The Inn is a 2hr train ride from New York and close to the Hudson Bridge Walkway. We loved our stay and felt safe and well looked after. This place is a definite for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday but atill close enough to enjoy the Big Apple!

Room Tip: All rooms are good and quiet.

“A Destination Itself”

I just completed a two-night stay at the Inn at Twaalfskill with my fiancée and my parents. On our trip upstate, we toured Vassar College, the Walkway Over the Hudson, FDR's home and Presidential Library, Eleanor's Val-Kill Cottage, West Point Military Academy, and the Culinary Institute of America.

At the end of our trip, we polled each other for "favorite part of the trip." One of us picked the Walkway, an ingenious public space developed on an historic, defunct bridge. The park space sits adjacent to the Inn's property and was made infinitely more fun by the free beachcomber-style bikes provided by the Inn. A second member of our party was torn between the Roosevelt sites and... the Walkway near the Inn. And the remaining two of us chose the Inn itself outright — instead of the world-renowned attractions. Between being chosen outright and the access it provided for our lovely experience on the Walkway, the Inn at Twaalfskill itself became the signature memory of our trip.

What makes the Inn so special? To start with, there's an intangible sense of welcoming from the moment you enter the grounds. The sound of a babbling brook lends to the illusion that you're far out in the country, instead of being tucked into the small town of Highland. The owners have immaculately designed (curated?) the house with lovely antiques and Provencal color tones.

The breakfasts are fresh, attractively presented, and very filling. The gracious host, Nancy, provides take-away bags for any of her home-baked goods that you weren't able to finish (zucchini bread and pumpkin muffins on our stay). The rooms are warm and inviting, with an old-time feel but with pure luxury throughout. My fiancée would have been happy to spend much more time luxuriating among the fluffy down comforter and pillows.

All in all, an unbeatable option in the Hudson River Valley. I recommend the Inn at Twaalfskill unreservedly, and so do my fiancée and parents. Kudos to the owners for their thorough attention to detail. It definitely pays off for the guests.

Room Tip: Room Number 1 has an enormous and inviting whirlpool tub.

“Superior in Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

For our daughter's out of town wedding we arranged for the Inn to be home base for our family. The 3 day stay was perfect in all ways. It truly felt like a home from our arrival to our departure. Nancy was very accommodating throughout all of the exciting preparations - including our daughter's walk in her bridal gown down the Inn's wonderful staircase. We were provided with delicious gourmet breakfast, pampered and able to celebrate together thanks to the Inn's flawless hospitality. Spacious, gracious, comfortable and warm would be the best words to describe the Inn. We travel and stay at B&Bs often and this one is one of the finest.
