I stayed here with my husband and son when we went fossil hunting in the area. Because it was a weekend we had trouble finding rooms. The plus of this place is that we had two rooms with a king size bed and a fold out couch so there was room for all of us. We also had two bathrooms, a microwave, refrigerator, table, and plenty of space to spread out.
The down side is that this is not really a hotel. Its main function is as an apartment complex with a few rooms that are rented out for short stays. There is a two day minimum, and the rates were pretty high for what we got. There are no real hotel amenities: no shampoo, no bathtubs (just showers), no pool or fitness center, no restaurant, no hotel staff on site, no daily maid service. The web site stressed how safe the property is, which seemed odd. It is probably because there is some reason to be concerned about safety in this area. This town is rather depressed with lots of empty store fronts and buildings in the area of Prospect Complex. We were advised to park our car right outside our window, apparently so we could keep an eye on it.
I should also note that this building is far from new and our rooms had older, stained carpeting, not pristine bathrooms, smelled musty, and I wasn't eager to walk around barefoot. On the other hand, it did serve our needs at the time; it is near good fossil hunting and "diamond mine" locations. The rooms were large and air conditioned. They are very quiet and private, and dining and grocery were easily accessible by car.
This place might be just fine for someone here for fishing or for working in the Herkimer area and isn't looking for a fancy lodging.
