“Fantastic Bush Camp - AMAZING stay”

We stayed at Somalisa towards the end of November for a 3 night stay after a recommedation from a local travel agent. From the moment we were collected from the Hwange Main Camp we were spoilt rotten with wonderful food, great service & of course an amazing wild life experience.
The camp is wonderful & also very intimate with only 6 tents. It is fairly remote & is a 2 hour drive into the National Park which means there is very little chance of running into other vehicles or tourists in this area. The tents were positioned to face the sunrise, so waking up in the wee hours of the morning was an aboslute treat. The tents were extremely comfortable & well thought out in terms of design and furnishings.
The camp staff & guides were all extremely attentive and dinner times were an absolute as the guide & camp hostess join the guests for meals. The camp over looks a watering hole which means that there is chance of seeing game through the day but the highlight is the regular elephants that visit the camp plunge pool in the evening. 40 elephants including babies drinking out of a tiny plunge pool not even 2 metres away is a breath taking site.
Even though we travelled at the start of the rainy season, the game veiwing was still good and would satisfy even experienced safari goers.
We were very sad to leave at the end of our stay & would have loved to stay on for a few more nights however this might have resulted in excessive weight gain as the food was just soo good !

“Get away from it all!”

We booked out the camp and travelled to Somalisa as a group of four families. We had five children between us ranging from 3 to 12 in age. The staff at Somalisa were wonderful in catering for the children and in providing activities in a way that was suitable for the children. This included packing special meals for them to be eaten during the game drives so the children didnt become hungry and restless.
The staff were wonderful, catering to our every need. The tents were well kitted out and luxurious. The food sensational (even allergies were wonderfully covered).
Only critism would be the poor signposting to the camp...but as most guests are driven in by staff that would normally not be an issue.
The game.......absolutely breathtaking. Never been that close to so many wild elephants! Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Amazing Experience!”

The highlight of my African trip by far. Spent four amazing nights here and wish I could have stayed for a lifetime. From the moment we arrived, the team was amazing and I felt like I finally found the African atmosphere that I was looking for. The tents that we stayed in were cozy and comfortable, with romantic bathrooms that only simulated 'roughing it'. Many times, a procession of elephants would make their way to the watering holes in the front of the camp around our tents and amaze us. Every time I looked, there would always be an animal cooling itself off and having fun in the mud or drinking out of the pool-turned-watering-hole - some times 40 elephants at a time!
Although it got chilly in the night time, there were hot water bottles waiting in the sheets for you after a long game drive. Getting so close to nature was indescribable, from having elephants feet away from you to hearing lions loud and clear. Some great animal sightings on the two game drives of each day. One of my favorite parts was when we would stop in the middle at a 'picnic spot' and eat either mouth-watering fresh muffins or delicious appetizers. Henry, the main guide, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The whole staff became our family and even gave us a dance performance! I rarely ever saw another game drive going on and felt like the only tourist in the park. The food was amazingly good all around. Everything was perfect, except for a small bug problem in the tents if one leaves their light on for too long, but you can hardly blame the staff! I can't wait to bring back my whole family and friends to show them wonderful animals, a warm staff and food to die for.

“Just the perfect place”

This camp was beyond our expectations. Everything was perfect close to the nature and luxury in the same time. Remote and with very high level of service. Nature around the camp is wild and we feel like explorators in 1920. We can feel (and even smell !) animals all around.
Tents and main tent is very stylish, food and wines are excellent.
The camp has a kind of private area which is huge and where other camps can not go. So we spent full days without seeing any other cars and this gave us opportunity to enjoy quietly animals watch.
There is so many animals (Elephants are everywhere in Hwange) it would be to long to list but we keep specialy in mind the lions we saw.
I miss words to describe how we enjoyed the place. We spent three nights there and one more would have been brilliant.

“Best bush camp!”

We had the pleasure of staying at Somalisa for three of our honeymoon nights and talk about a magical experience! Managed by the darling newly weds, Terry and Sheona Anders, we discovered a home away from home at their camp. Intimate, with only six elegantly furnished tents, complete with outside showers, we were pampered like you wouldnt believe. Located about a two hour drive from the strip airport, in Hwange National Park, this is definitely one of the more remote camps, and all the more exciting for it! The meals were fantastic and there was an incredible attention to detail, from scented towels to wipe off the dust when we arrived back at camp from a game drive, to the beautiful way our towels were arranged on the beds, artistically surrounded by seed pods. We even had homemade chocolates in tiny paper boxes laid on our pillows at night.
Some of our most poignant African memories occured here...from lying on deck chairs, watching elephants drink from the small swimming pool only 8 feet away, to hearing the cracking of branches right outside our tent as yet more elephants ate their way around us, to being serenaded by the Somalisa team, whose singing brought tears to our eyes.
Terry is an amazing guide, not only is he extremely knowledgeable, he made us feel safe at all times, no mean feat with the amount of wildlife breathing around us! We saw 19 lions in those three days alone, the number of animals was astounding. This was Africa as we had envisioned it, romantic, wild, and right at our fingertips.
