“Superlative staff, amazing experience!”

Although the rainy season brings high grass and somewhat hidden wildlife, we spent two wonderful days at The Hide. The tents are clean, modern and extremely comfortable (with incredible views out onto the pan). You are woken up with hot coffee or tea delivered to your cabin, and morning walks or drives with the extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic guides really help you gain a strong appreciation for the web of life in the park. Excellent freshly prepared meals, coupled with a sunset/night drive with drinks adds to the experience. We loved the helpful and professionalism of all staff members. Thanks to Amanda, Mark, Jean, Daffy and the rest of the staff. You'd be crazy not to stay here!!

Room Tip: Apparently in the dry season, the outdoor shower of the cabin at the end has elephants that come ri...

“Wilderness surprise!”

We have just returned from our Safari at the 'Hide' and can't express enough what a wonderful experience it was. From the moment we arrived the attention and welcome we received gave us the feeling of being their first and only guests. Good start.. :) We were given the 'Honeymoon' tent (although we were long past our honeymoon - perhaps our 2nd!), but appreciated the little extras. The attention to detail was amazing. From the 5* meals by their Chef, to the outdoor bbq breakfast, to the afternoon tea where they cooked up Lamingtons for us,... a nice touch for us Aussies. Then of course was the Safari's game drives which were 6:00am / 2:00 and 6:00pm. You could do as many as you wished. Even bush walking morning Safari's. Thanks to our guides, John and Nicholas, who with their eagle eyes were able to see animals long before we could, and imparted lots of interesting facts about all facets of the drive, fauna and flora. It was the wet season and perhaps we would have seen more animals in a different season, but we were still very happy with what was captured on video and camera. Thanks to the whole team of the Hide, ie Ian, Cher, Judy, John, Nicholas, Daffy etc., (and all that work behind the scene) for making our stay at the Hide so enjoyable and putting another tick on our 'bucket list'. ps: if I ever hear 'drums' now I remember it's time for 'FOOD'!! “Wonderful five star safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed in January 2012 and although it was nearing the end of the season we had a wonderful time, a holiday we will never forget. The hosts at The Hide have attended to every detail from the amazing tented accommodation (like no other tents I have ever seen) to the superb food and of course as many game drives as can be fitted in to the time spent there. The sunset drinks in the park were very special. We were looked after both inside and outside the camp and soon felt like one big family. We would like to thank Ian and Cher for the wonderful hospitality, John and Nickolas for the very informative guiding and the chefs for feeding us so well. Zimbabwe is a beautiful country and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Hide for that special African experience.

Room Tip: A good time would be June to October

“Choose the right season!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed there with family and friends for two nights over New Year. This is a great place if you want to spend time in the bush AND enjoy the luxury of a 5* hotel, 3 course meals, good South African wines, bush shower (depending which tent you are in even bath tub) etc. included
The staff is extremely attentive and friendly and the rangers are, as usual in Zimbabwe, in a class by themselves. A bush walk (minimum age 16) with one of the rangers has been one of my most educating moments in many years in Africa.
Choose the timing of your stay well: during the wet season the game disperses all over Hwange and the artificial water hole in front of the camp may attract no animals at all!

“Awesome honeymoon @ The Hide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Our 7 night stay at The Hide in the Honeymoon tent (tent 4) was a highlight of our honeymoon. The service and attention to detail was fantastic, from the champagne in our outside bath tub (outside shower too), to the amazing 3 course meals, welcome & goodbye notes, laundry, afternoon teas, wake-up call teas & coffees, pool-side drinks overlooking the pan (the rooms also overlook the pan) & great game drives with sundowner drinks and snacks & morning walks with Daffy, surprise dinner for 2 upstairs & surprise birthday lunch on the platform of the Dove's Nest overlooking the vlei. We met some great people, ticked off a number of birds, & among others saw wild dogs, lions with cubs, caracal, civet, elephant, buffalo & sable. The conservancy on which The Hide is built is a really beautiful part of the park & we loved our night at the Dove's Nest tree-house where we fell asleep to the sound of frogs & slipped very quickly into the routine of a morning or afternoon nap after a morning walk/drive & left with the batteries fully recharged! Ian, Cher, Judy & the team were fantastic & couldn't have done more to ensure our stay was as memorable as it was. We're already looking forward to the day we can return for an anniversary!
