“Perfect Evening for Special Occasion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

My fiancee and I were interested in taking advantage of the Winter Fires package that the Belhurst if offering through December 31st because we thought it sounded romantic and affordable. We were also planning on getting married around this same time and thought of combining the two for a nice day/evening. We called the Belhurst and they were very helpful and accomodating, saying that we could use the library room for our ceremony and at no extra cost.

We were easily able to check-in on the day of our arrival and the event planner, Katie, came down to meet us and show us around immediately. She was very helpful and friendy. We then went up to our room to get ready and were very happy with the room. We were given one of the Turret rooms and loved the spacious floor plan with jacuzzi and fireplace. The package also included 2 half bottles of wine and a cheese board, both of which we enjoyed after the ceremony and before our dinner.

The ceremony was quick and private and perfect for us. We felt no pressure to hurry, either during the ceremony or when we should be to dinner. Katie had told us earlier that they would honor our dinner voucher at the much nicer Edgar's restaurant (the voucher was for the Stonecutter's restaurant- a less formal dining experience but also very good) and we decided to do that since it seemed more suited to the occasion.

We were sat immediately (the restaurant was not busy at all) and had an absolutely wonderful evening. The service was outstanding and the food excellent. The transer between restaurants was seamless, as they gave us a $40 credit that was deducted from the bill at the end. We were also given 2 free desserts to help celebrate our occasion.

In the morning we went back to Edgar's for the breakfast buffet (also included!). The server was very attentive and there was great selection in food. The omelette station was our favorite but the selection of cereals was also good and the fruit/cottage cheese gave a nice healthy option.

We had enjoyed the jacuzzi su so much the night before we thought we would ask if we could have a late checkout and were given it no problem. Overall, the night we shared at the Belhurst could not have gone any smoother and we both thought the experience to be about perfect. I would definitely reccomend this place and already hope they offer the package again next year so we can take advantage of it again!

“Vinifera very nice Belhurst Castle rooms old and dumpy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

Have stayed at all three locations under the Belhurst name and Vinifera is the nicest. The castle is old, old, old and the rooms are not being well kept which is disappointing. It could be lovely with some work. There is a new addition, a spa, which I am sure will be very nice. However I would suggest the money could have been better spent up grading the rooms.

The views from Vinifera are lovely and peaceful. The staff has always been very helpful and pleasant. We've eaten in Edgars and it is expensive but well worth the price.

“Great Hotel on the Wine Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

Stayed here for 2 nites while experiencing the Seneca Wine Trail. Location on the lake is beautiful with all rooms facing the Lake. The sunrise on the lake was just gorgeous.
Room was large with 2 vanities, great shower, very comfortable bed and a great heat/ac unit that did not make noise through the night. Had the buffet breakfast both mornings in Edgar's and our group of 10 were seated in the "library". How cool that was.
Castle has plenty of history and quite interesting. Did the trolley for the wine trial and it was wonderful. Drinking at 11:00 AM is quite a trip. Had dinner at Ports Cafe and Halseys which were great. Would certainly stay here again.

“A very pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

If you are visiting the Lake Seneca wine trail, this is a great place to stay! My husband and I had visited the Belhurst in the past to have dinner and Sunday brunch, but we had never stayed there overnight. Based on some previous Tripadvisor reviews of the Castle Chambers, I was quite sceptical....but the Vinifera Inn is much newer and EXCEEDED our expectations. The rooms are very spacious with an in-room jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace. Bathroom area also quite large with 2 separate vanity areas. The room also has a small refrigerator. I was quite impressed to find a small vase with fresh flowers in the room as well as a wrapped piece of chocolate on the bed (molded in the shape of the Belhurst Castle). All rooms face the lake (no bad views) - what a great treat to open the curtains in the morning and see the sun rising over Lake Seneca.

I planned this outing for 7 couples....all were equally pleased with their accommodations....except one couple who accidently booked in the Castle Chambers (definitely older & in need of updating). The only real problem we ran into was that the front desk had made a reservation error for one couple (booking them 1 night instead of 2), but fortunately they were able to accommodate the couple the next night in another room.

We can't wait to return...and if you go, I highly recommend Ports Cafe or Halsey's in Geneva for dinner.

“Would not stay at Belhurst/Very disappointing stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2010

Back from wonderful trip to Finger Lakes region of NY state. "It was the best of times / it was the worst of times". We had a wonderful stay in Skaneateles at Mirbeau. But we also had a very disappointing stay at Belhurst.

Checked in no problems. Room a bit dated and worn, but could have lived with it if the service was better. There was major construction going on. Fire alarms went off at 7:20am and came on several times over next 1/2 hour. They said they put coffee out at 7am, so we went up to lobby to get some at 7:30 and they were out of it. Waited about 10 minutes for some and finally gave up and went looking for a Starbucks. (found a Tim Horton's which by the way has wonderful coffee).

Came back and asked about coffee again at the front desk. Clerk was too busy flirting with the construction guys to respond to us. Gave up headed home.

Don't let this discourage you from visiting this wonderful region. Mirbeau is BEAUTIFUL. The scenery is gorgeous, the wineries are fun, and there are restaurants aplenty in the area.

But stay at a Hampton or Holiday Inn Express, both of which are cleaner, nicer, more up to date, and have better service than Belhurst for the same money. Or splurge and spend more money and stay at Mirbeau.
