“The WORST hotel ever...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Econolodge should be ashamed to have their name associated with this place. The worst run and pathetic place I've ever stayed in. The owners were people out of Deliverance and the room was not cleaned. They have 3 buildings full of rooms there and they didn't know if anyone was in the room where they wanted to put us. The place was empty and we could have had our pick but no. She sent her husband down to see if anyone was there and blamed the weekend help for messing things up. When she discovered the room was empty she said to me TWICE :"Ma'am go get my husband and tell him never mind". That's not my job. You go get him. Then when we got to the room, it hadn't been fully cleaned. I guess the maid had to take her kid to the hospital. So why didn't the owners finish the job? Its their business. There were no towels in the room. I called for some and she lazily brought down a bath mat that she said was a towel, 1 towel, and 5 wash clothes. I went back up and asked for more and she gave me 2 more small ones. And then said to her husband "Well I guess I have to go to the laundry room and do more laundry". No ice machines. Had to go back to the lobby for that too. The bed was queen size made up with flat sheets for a full size mattress...by the middle of the night we were sleeping on the bare mattress. The A/C barely worked. We would have packed up and gone somewhere else but we had a flat tire on our motorcycle and had to wait til morning for the tow truck to take us to a Harley dealership for a new tire. It was one of the most disgusting places and would NEVER recommend it to anyone...not even my dog. They didn't even have a sign for Econolodge..apparently it had blown down. That should have been an indication, but like I said we had no choice without transportation. The place should be closed down.

“Worst motel stay I have experienced in my entire life... and I'm OLD!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

I wish I had read the reviews here before booking this room at Choice. I can only say THANK GOODNESS our stay here was only one night. I interrupted the creepy guy #1 at the desk from a computer game when I went to check in. He looked like a couch potato that had been dragged away from the TV.... totally unprofessional. I was informed the "key machine" was not working and that whenever I wanted to get into the room I had to go to the office and get someone to open the door for me. This was wonderful since it poured rain almost the whole time and meant 2 separate trips to and from the car~ 1 to the office each time to get the key, and 2 to get in the room. The room itself was dingy and just felt dirty. The water in the toilet was yellow and at first I thought someone used it and didn't flush, but even after I flushed it the water was still yellow. No bathmat, tissues, hairdryer. Hair in the tub. After wincing my way through a shower, It was great to find myself standing in 8 inches of yucky water. When I told them on checkout that the drain was backing up I was informed that's just the way the drains are... nothing they can do about it. There was a wonderful, huge picture window on the river side.... too bad it was so clouded that we couldn't even see through it. The river side of the room had a door and it gave me the creeps when I poked my head out. I was a little worried that if it rained too much we'd be IN the water instead of BESIDE it . (I'm sure the whole place is UNDERWATER now with Irene!) Upstairs we had the National Redneck Reunion going on until after 2 AM. Stomp, stomp, stomp back and forth all night, yelling, laughing, loud TV, arguing. The desk idiot said they threw them out sometime during the night. I can't understand, with the place nearly empty, WHY they put these people upstairs over us to begin with! The glorious continental breakfast was a box of 1 dozen assorted donuts from the Dunkin Donuts next door. They just stuck the box on the counter. Not even in a case! My distinct feeling was they did that so nobody would eat the breakfast and they could have them all for themselves later. Creepy guy number 2 told me that they would refund me $5 because of not having a key. When I checked out, he said he had taken care of it. When I checked my account when I got home, it wasn't reflected. I called them a couple of days later and he remembered us (EEEK!) and were working on it. I waited a few more days.... no refund. I called the next weekend and he said the other guy was doing it and it would be done by Monday. Nope.... wrong again. I called every few days.... same type of story. I sent an email. A woman called me and it sounded promising. She would look into it and get back to me. That was almost 3 weeks ago. I lodged a complaint with Choice Hotels. They are "looking into it" and I should hear from them in 10+ days. The only redeeming thing is that it was close to the attraction we were visiting. Next time I'll stay in Amsterdam at the other Choice Hotel. Barring endangering anyone's life, if this place washed away in the flood it was no great loss. I paid a premium $90 for this stinking (literally) room. It was a total ripoff. I've paid less for some really great places. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

“Don't believe the good reviews!”

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I should have packed my luggage back up and asked for my money back. The man who checked me in was quite friendly and the room didn't seem too bad at first so I unloaded everything then went for supper. After returning I had a better look and was disgusted. Smelly, dirty washroom, towels were gray, flying bugs, no fitted sheets on the bed, the tub didn't drain, the sink had stubble in it, the mirror was dirty... You get the idea.

I didn't feel like having an argument with the staff as I figured it was just for one night. I woke up at 4:30 with the non fitted sheets bunched up and I was on the bare mattress. Gross. I left at around 5:30 not wanting to stay another minute. 80 bucks for that!

Room Tip: Stay far away!

“Never, again”

The hotel advertised that is was newly renovated with a lounge and swimming pool not to mention a beach and boat launch. The room was dirty, lamps didn't work, no blankets or fitted sheet, no bathmat, no hair dryer or clock and to top it all off the "pool" was not filled nor did it look like it could ever be useable and the lounge was permantenly closed.
There was definitely no beach or boatwash and the window overlooking the river looked like it hadn't been washed in years.

“Absolutely Disgusting”

My boyfriend and I came here for a weekend getaway. I went to the lobby to check in becaue the room was in my name, and I was told that I was not found in the system anywhere showing I booked a room. I provided my information and confirmation number to the desk clerk and was told that confirmation numbers don't really mean anything here, but not to worry they have plenty of rooms available. I said that's not the point, you gave me a # and I gave you my credit info so that means my information is just floating around now. After that we went up to our first room to find that it was a pig sty. There were french fries in complete view on the floor near the bed, empty beer bottles and boxes of cigarettes on our balcony windowsill, a black ring around the toilet bowl seat, an open half bottle of vodka and a can of beer left in the mini fridge, cobwebs in the corner of the ceiling and a sticky coating of something gross left on the night stand and only one towel in the bathroom. I also requested a smoking room and they gave me non smoking. I quickly went down to the front desk and told the desk clerk of the situation. He said wow I can't believe this and said he would switch our room and give us extra towels. We go over to our secpnd room and it was just as bad. It looked cleaner, but when we pulled back the blankets the sheets were so wrinkled on both beds that we could tell they were slept in and never changed. One the beds had a nasty stain in the center of it and the other bed had a pillow with red spotted stains all over the pillow case and bugs flying around. At this point I was furious, We left room and went to dinner and to check the area for other vacant hotels because it was so gross staying there and I didn't feel safe. We lucked out and I booked us in a beautiful Holiday Inn Express Hotel 7miles down the road. When we came back to get our stuff and get my refund, the night staff who took over was completely unprofessional looking (the younger girl had greasy hair was wearing a stained gray zip hoodie over a tank top that you could see her breasts almost coming out. The older lady was wearing a ripped red Mickey Mouse t-shirt and black sweatpants) as well as unfriendly. I spoke to the girl explaining the whole situation and told her I was completely dissatisfied with the services. I heard in the background an older lady yell out that I was liar and that I stole her towels. She came out and said that the guy on duty before her told her that we left. I looked at her and said How did I possibly steal your towels if I'm standing here and do you think I would really pay for a 145.00 and just leave with out staying? She looked at me and said oh you do have a point. She gave me my refund with out hesitation, and didn't even try to compensate for any of the trouble we went through. The only nice thing about this place was the view of the Mohawk River and Dunkin Donuts was right on the property To bad it was such a dump that it couldn't have been enjoyed. So after all of this my recommendation is DON'T STAY here. Our saving grace was the big neon sign across from the Econo Lodge AKA "Bate's Motel" for the Holiday Inn Express 7 miles away. If you get off at the exit just keep going, Don't waste your time and money on this motel, for lousy service, nasty rooms and sence of discomfort and almost fear (for possibly waking up with bed bugs, or catching something nasty for the lack of hygiene the over motel had including the staff) For just a lil bit more money, the Holiday Inn will make you feel at home, give you quality, friendly service, a beautiful clean looking and smelling room and sence of safety.
