“Farther out from Manhattan but excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

First off, when they say LaGuardia East on the hotel name, it is definitely east of the airport. I took a taxi to get to here from Manhattan and we passed LaGuardia first before getting to the hotel so it seems a lot farther.

The reason why we stayed here is because the price is right and our flight the next morning was at 6AM so we didn't want to deal with getting a taxi in the morning. They have free airport shuttle service 24 hours a day and from the hotel to airport is really only 10 minutes.

The hotel is located in the busy section of Chinatown in Flushing. The hotel is influenced by its surrounding because they had a lot of Chinese architecture and ornaments. Every staff member we encountered is top notch and very friendly.

Being a SPG Platinum member, we got upgraded to a suite and it was so lovely after staying in tiny rooms in Manhattan. They also have a Club Lounge and it was nice to have some appetizers and soda to drink.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would stay here if I was flying out of LaGuardia early in the morning again and price was cheaper than the Manhattan hotels. I definitely would NOT stay here IF you are trying to visit the Manhattan because it definitely is far off the grid.

“Clean, good service and exceeded my expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

I flew to NYC to speak at a seminar that was being held at this hotel, I was only staying one night so I figured why not just stay here. I was pleasently surprised. Yes the neighborhood is not the best in New York, but it is also not dangerous. I found it to be very convenient to LGA (it took maybe 10 min to get there by taxi)

Regarding the hotel : While the lobby is a little dated and the hallways could use a makeover the rooms were actually very clean and bed were brand new and super comfortable. The bathrooms also appear to have recently been upgraded. However I will say that the elevators could use a little work and are a little "touchy".

The staff is multi lingual (English, Spanish, Cantonese, Korean and Mandarin) which was nice and helpful with some of my clients who were also staying there and had flown in from Beijing.

The bar was hard to find, hidden in the back of the restaurant in the bottom floor below the lobby, but the food in the restaurant was surprisingly good and not very expensive

I am not sure about travel into Manhattan as I did not need to go into the city on this trip but I would prob agree that to someone who is not familiar with NYC that the local subway station in Flushing could be a less than inviting

Finding a taxi in the morning to get back to LGA is not easy and I suggest to arrange with a car service in advance or arranging with the front desk for shuttle service. They were more than happy to shuttle me over to LGA at no cost and I gave the driver a tip

Room Tip: Try to get a King Size (without the handicap access)

“Convenient but unremarkable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I stayed here twice in the space of a week, once at the beginning and once at the end of a business trip to NYC. With a late arriving flight and early departing flight, I like to be at a hotel with a shuttle service to make things smooth and hassle free. This hotel made absolutely no sense to me the first time I stayed here. It's right in the heart of Long Island's Korea/China towns in a mall. The lobby is open to the restaurant below, and can be a bustling place. The restaurant is semi-Chinese offering Asian specialties, but they have no soy sauce and the food is not good. I asked for a wine list and was pointed to the bar tent menu on the table which listed wines by the glass. Asking a second person generated a wine list. Prices on the wine list, btw, were remarkably fair. The room was unexceptional, but clean and comfortable.

On my second stay, the hotel upgraded me to a suite which was very nice. Slightly older, but attractive, done in an Asian theme that certainly fit the location. It was made up of a few smal rooms connected with hallway! It would have made a very nice Manhattan apartment. As i was returning to my room in the elevator, a young Chinese couple got into the elevator car with TONS of shopping bags. They were talking excitedly and looked very happy. We made some small talk on the way up and I realized how amazing this hotel is for visitors with easy access to Manhattan without the hassle. Overall, the hotel performed well for what I needed it for. It was convenient to and from LaGuardia, reasonably priced, and comfortable if a little quirky.

“Sketchy area.”

My colleague and I stayed here for two nights last week. This hotel was a huge disappointment. First--it's not close to La Guardia. Getting into Manhattan is very inconvenient. There's only one train, and it not only breaks down regularly, but we found ourselves riding with a very rough crowd; one night we were delayed while a passenger who was injured in an on board fight was assisted by paramedics.

And yes, it is a very short walk from the train station. I don't know what it's like during the day, but at night it's poorly lit and scary.

The security guards, doormen, and shuttle drivers were all amazing, though. Too bad they're the only redeeming qualities of this property.

Room Tip: Choose a room at a different hotel.

Dear FaffyTheD,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am happy that you had positive interactions with our team. They strive to always deliver a high level of service and to make our guests feel at home. I am glad you had the opportunity to experience that and I will share your feedback with them.

It is unfortunate, though, that your experience with the nearby subway train was not so nice. What you experienced is unusual and not a common occurrence. With millions of travelers everyday using the train system it is a challenge for New York City to prevent any altercation from occurring on any NYC train at any given point and time throughout all five boroughs. I can say that the NYC authorities do a great job of deterring them from being frequent. If you find yourself visiting the NYC area again and you choose to stay at our hotel, which I hope you do, then I can suggest an alternative method of transportation, the Long Island Railroad. It too is nearby the Hotel and is great way to travel around NYC and Long Island. It is one and a half blocks from the Hotel and it is a more comfortable and quicker way of traveling into Manhattan.

With Warm Regards,

General Manager

“Bad complimentary shuttle bus service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

I was booked two nights at Sheraton Laguardia NY for Nov-06 and Nov-10 for a pre and post tour to Canada. The room is fine although I expected it is better with such famous brand Sheraton.
The most disappointed point is shuttle bus service, Sheraton advertised about complimentary shuttle bus to pick up at New York Laguardia airport, and I tried to call Sheraton 3 times, first time two days in advance, second time once we are just reached the ariport, and wait for 30 minutes, third time to remind and wait for 15 minutes further. Can't wait more then we had to take a taxi. No callback phone!!! We had cancelled the second night.
I had to say we had a bad feeling with this hotel.

Dear Khanh Nguyen,
Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. I am glad to hear you were satisfied with your room accommodation however I am disappointed to hear of your troubles with our shuttle service. I can understand your frustration of having to wait and to add to the frustration you did not receive a courtesy call keeping you informed of any delays. The service you experienced is not commonplace here and I have brought this to our team’s attention for review in a proactive measure to prevent a service issue such as the one you experienced from occurring again. Your comments were quite helpful in this process.
I apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced and I hope you would give our property another opportunity to rebuild your confidence in Sheraton and more specifically our property on your next visit to the New York City area.
With Warm Regards,
General Manager
