“decieving”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2007

The hotel looks great when you first pull up and in the lobby. We had our stay booked by our company. We had to stay for 12 days and on our very first night one of our mattresses were ripped down the side with the foam hanging out, our toilet ran all night and would not shut off, my husband had to shut it off. Our bedside lights did not work there is not enough plug-ins, not enough drawer space or counter space, the people upstairs decides to take a shower at 12:30 at night then paces back and forth for an hour so the floors creek loudly. We had enough and changed rooms just to move right next door into a room where my husband had to take off the hot water handle just so I could take a shower. You get what you pay for thats for sure and if we had a choice we would have went to another motel. And if you plan on staying for awhile and need the refridgerator they say they have then you need to make sure you get the suite? room. They have six buildings and not all of them have ice machines. Building 2 or Building 6. I dont normally write reviews but I had to on this one.

“STAY CLEAR!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

The Hotel is deceiving at first glance as you drive up, the lobby is as nice as you would expect for the price, as it is an Econo Lodge. One lone very young sweet girl seemed to be running the desk, incoming phone lines, and guest calls, she was just overwhelmed.

Rooms at first glance appeared to be inhabitable but further study showed both balconies were unusable due to beehives (we had two rooms), all four side chairs had worn broken seats that sank way down and the fabric was worn and stained. The tub and shower area tiles were in desperate need of new tile and grout, there was a sticker in the shower warning of temperature fluctuations while showering. The linens where damp, the blankets were dirty and had an array of different types, colours and lengths of hair attached, I don’t know what a bed bug looks like but while reading I killed a small bug on my hand. I did not see any others and believe me I looked.

To get to the units and back to the parking lot we had to use a staircase of about 7 cement steps, going down was fine but up was a different story. The step second from the top was about 2” – 2.5” higher then the rest, a code violation in our area. Each of us tripped and fell going up, personally I fell very hard, injuring my knee, back and shoulder. Luckily no one was seriously injured. Although we were compensated for our dissatisfaction I would stay clear of this property even the maintenance man we casually spoke to said “I am always tripping around this place too”

And don’t get me started on the Continental Breakfast, really how can you mess that up, well now I can tell you…….

Side note, two nights previously we stayed in the Econo Lodge at Painted Post in New York state and it was great.

“Accommodating to problems like power/heat outages!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2006

Liked the facilty - clean, comfortable, good tv stations - I was there on a very windy night, woke up to no heat - my building did not lose power - when I called the desk at 3 AM, they offered to move me and said no charge - I did wait till the next day and then did move since the heat was not fixed (I did have to remind them at check out about the no-charge).
My only complaint about the place is that it is on a hill, very cold in December with the wind to walk dogs and be out at night - also not a good place for someone with knee problems - have to do stairs no matter what the room - however, the price is right, the front desk personnel are great, and the location is fine (watch out for deer!). close to fast food, gas, and grocery - as well as the Racetrack

“A mixed bag. Old conference facility being upgraded”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2006

This was a grand conference facility years ago. Bankruptcy brought Econo Lodge in 2001. Wandering around the main buildings locked and cracked doors show interiors that once housed elegant events. The grounds are spectacular with "views to die for" as it sits on the top of a mountain surrounded by mowed lawns and attractive landscaping. Our room was adequate. Bed OK. Everything clean. Some furnishings new; others battle-scarred. Inadequate lighting. Almost no electric outlets. Tiny bathroom with a very old tub. Breakfast was perhaps up to Econo Lodge standards, but definitely less than the next price tier. Tiny breakfast room, so we felt pushed to get out so others could eat. And you better like stairs, because every where you go there is a staircase(or multiple staircases) leading to your destination. The guest rooms are in a cluster of "cottages" linked together with covered walkways. From the parking lot your choice is to climb stairs down to your room on the first floor, or up to your room on the second floor. All doors exit to the outside, which would be fine in Southern California, but not quite right for "snowshoe country". Summary - The location is fantastic. You can sense that this was a grand facility 40 years ago - but now it's tired. It was worth what we paid, but it will have to do much much better to be worth more.

  • Liked — Location - great scenery just off Exit 44 of I-90
  • Disliked — Climb stairs outdoors to move around the property.. Poor breakfast.
  • Tips/Secrets — It's just about OK for the price. Seems popular. Reserve early.

“Too bad I only spent one night...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2006

I was very impressed when I rolled up the driveway, all kinds of parking for large vehicles, well kept property, and even a covered walkway from the more distant parking area!

The check in was super quick (although I did book online), the directions to my building were great, yes I said building, there are several separate building on this property, it's almost like a resort style set up.

I had an upper level room, the first thing that caught my eye was the tall peaked ceiling, wow, very impressive! Pretty well everything was clean and well kept, there was a cup sitting outside on the balcony (yea, there are balconies), it had cigarette butts in it... But I did not venture out on to the balcony, so no big deal.

I would definitely stay there again!
