“Great place to stay for Girls Night Away!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My friends and I did the Spa-Jama overnight package for the second year in a row. We live locally but feel like we are on vacation when we go to the Woodcliff...the location is perfect!

The staff was very friendly, and we felt pampered.
Special thank you's to Michelle in the Spa and Margaret in the Sales Office for being so patient and accommodating with my organizing the overnight for my friends and I (there were 9 of us).

Brendan in Room Service was awesome!!!

We look forward to staying here again next year!

“Let's hope that improvements are constantly being looked to”

We've stayed at the Woodcliff over several years, and it's been only the last two fairly recent visits that have caused us concern. Otherwise this would have been an Excellent rating. The most recent trip we learned that the hotel was recently sold to new a owner; so we're hoping that the new management/owner takes the recent "Terrible" and "Poor" ratings here on Tripadvisor seriously. The Woodcliff is such a wonderful property, with gorgeous view, and the restaurant offers outstanding cuisine with well-trained experienced service people. The problems we encountered this trip were lack of valet and bell staff at the front doors and then lack of thoroughness at the registration desk as to the type room we wanted. However, I must add that three complaining explanations as to our dissatisfaction did bring smooth correction of the problems, though it did take two hours total. The staff seemed trained to be courteous but not terribly proactive in correcting service problems until we had complained three times. Note the THREE times required. Perhaps there were too few staff on that week-end day? We plan to return because it's been such a good home away from home in past stays. May that continue!

“New Years Eve 2011 Khaos”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Have stayed here before & rooms always great. As a newlywed we wanted to spend1st New Years here w/great room & wonderful brunch on NY Day. Checked in @ 3:30 - given a handicapped rm (no apparent reason). Handicapped bathroom was badly renovated-open style shower w a floor level with the rest of the Bathroom floor & shower curtain 1 foot off the floor. Take a shower & bathroom floods-was given about 20 towels to soak up water for when we took showers. No place for toiletries-no shelf near sink, couldn't use back of toilet,no place for shampoo, etc in shower. Was offered use of tub chair where people sit during shower to use for personal items!!! Then was brought rickety wooden bookcase w/ wheels to put toiletries on & could wheel in and out of the bathroom. Lightbulbs in Bathroom blew. No room darkening curtain on 1 window-only wooden blinds that didn't shut, woke up @6 AM after late nt on New Year's Eve. Then Horizons overbooked ppl for Holiday Brunch -- great food but had to seat ppl at the bar, tables in the Lobby, etc. So at our reservation time, I mentioned I would just pack up and leave if we couldn't sit where we expected to (in the restaurant). Many people walked out. Check out time was @ 6 PM on NewYears, but all guests were locked out of their rooms around 1 PM. Should I go on .......Management only wanted to give me $30 in compensation after paying a great sum because it was NY Eve. Their rooms needs upgrading still, and they need to learn how to handle large scale special events when they are booked to capacity!! Others with handicapped rooms had other nightmare issues as well.

Room Tip: Unless you need 'handicapped accessible' - make sure to ask if they are giving you one. Ask...

“Some good and some bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We had a very small family wedding at the Woodcliff recently. We were married in one of their large suites and had ordered fruit and veg and cheese platters along with a bowl of punch. The room was great. Food was scheduled to arrive at 3:30 (actually written in our contract). I called at 3:45 wondering where the food was. The front desk clerk checked for us and said it would be there shortly. After 2 more phone calls and one visit downstairs by my daughters, the food finally arrived at 4:20! One poor young man was sent up several times with trays, instead of sending a few people up just once. He brought the punch and when we asked for glasses he looked at us as if to say "what? now you want glasses". By the time he brought the glasses up we had to delay the actual ceremony by 10 minutes. The food was good but clearly someone dropped the ball. We wanted a low key but special day and instead were forced to put up with lousy food service. Also, they have a breakfast buffet during the week in the restaurant. We've had better buffets at several other hotels. The buffet consisted of fresh fruit (looked exactly like what we had the night before), bagels, muffins, oatmeal and cold cereals. No waffles, eggs, potatoes, bacon etc! It was a pretty pathetic excuse for a breakfast buffet if you ask me. We had traveled recently and had several wonderful FREE breakfast buffets at a Hampton Inn as well as a Marriott. This buffet was certainly not free nor was it worth the $20 it cost us. Also, we had requested that a few of the feather bed pillows be replaced with foam since I'm allergic to feathers. We didn't realize that this was not done until much later in the evening. I had to wait for about 20 minutes for someone from housekeeping to bring up the pillows. Again, not a huge deal but when you are paying close to $500 for a suite, you expect things to be done correctly especially since we had included it in our contract. The hotel has said that we won't be charged for the food since they dropped the ball and we appreciate that. But it was our wedding and we had counted on this first class hotel to do things properly. They really didn't and we were both very disappointed.

Room Tip: We were in the Art Deco suite. Beautiful two level suite. However the emergency exit door on the u...

“The Christmas Eve from Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I have stayed at the Woodcliff over the past 20 years many times as well as housed business associates there however the quality of customer service has changed significantly! I had the worse unprofessional front desk attendant that I have ever experience in the world. She was demeaning, argumentative and just rude! All because the pool and ad closed early without prior notice. We left the hotel and stayed somewhere else and then when we returned for our dinner reservations we found out she HAD cancelled them! The restaurant manager was able to fix that how ever when the Hotel manager was contacted the next day he failed to address the situation. Sad it used to be a quality hotel perhaps the ecomonic has forced they to hire just anyone off the street!

Room Tip: Stay some where else
