“Amazing Experience”

This was our second stay at the Painted Lady. The Inn is goregous and centrally located in the middle of town. Butch went out of his way to accomodate several of our requests, which made this a weekend to remember for some of my girlfriends. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the breakfasts are incredible. I work for a major hotel chain and could stay just a few miles away for a corporate price, but I would not dream of it. This is always a special treat when we come back to town.

Room Tip: We splurged this time and stayed in the Vineyard Suite. It has a full bedroom and sitting room with...

“The Perfect Place for a Relaxing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

The Elmira's Painted Lady is the ideal place for a relaxing stay in the Elmira area. Owners Butch and Marilyn Monroe were very accommodating; Butch is a wealth of knowledge on places and events in the area. There was never a moment that we didn't ask Butch something that he didn't come up with a perfect thing to do.
We were unsure about our plans. It turned out the weather was unusually warm for mid October, and we decided to include more outdoor activities in our plans. Butch provided itineraries, passes, and suggestions as to what we could do.
Between the wineries, cheese factories, restaurants, gorges and museums, there is a great deal to do within a short drive of the Painted Lady. Butch gave us perfect instructions, including maps and brochures, for all off these. If that wasn't enough, I planned to do a bike tour, and Butch provided for that, as well, even though our time ran out before we could do the cycling trip.
The Painted Lady is a beautiful facility, with great attention to detail. Our room (The Samuel Clemens Hideaway) was clean and very comfortable, with a large bathroom and closet area.
Breakfast was wonderful, and left us quite prepared for the day. I am not usually a "Breakfast Person", but I could not resist.
The only (very slight) negative was that our room wasn't made up daily, but we quickly straightened the bed out and all was fine. Certainly not reason to complain.
Thank you, Butch and Marilyn, for a wonderful, relaxing stay!

Room Tip: Check before arriving on where to park: parking is reached from the street in back of the Painted La...

“A must stay in Elmira”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Stayed here 19-20 Sept 11, We had a lovely clean and comfortable room, each one is named, we stayed in one called Becky's Room. The owners, Butch & Marilyn Monroe, were very friendly and welcoming, and went to every effort to make sure we were well received and comfortable. It was a perfect stay. The original victorian public rooms themselves are worth a visit, This B&B has been authentically refurbished with victorian decor throughout and in immaculate condition, and the hosts will gladly show you around and tell you the history if you want to know, even if that's not your thing don't let it put you off this gem. The breakfast is also amazing, at least 4 or 5 courses, I can't remeber but it just kept coming and every one was wondeful and fresh and home cooked to order. Changed our mind about staying in B&B's. A real slice of American hospitality. Thank you both.!

“just wonderful !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

What a treasure in Elmira. We just loved the wonderful atmosphere and the owners were very nice and extremely knowledgable about the area and had great tips.
Our room was very beautiful and quiet. The breakfast was amazing: 3 courses.. with fresh grilled pineapple, a veggie fritatta with sweet potatoes and as a dessert angelfood cake with lemon sauce. Butch , the owner, talked with us about Mark Twain and gave a great dinner recommendation the night before : Hilltop restaurant overlooking the whole area with a huge patio outside. We had a great time there and we will be definitely back.

“Comfy bed, great breakfast”

When looking for a place to stay in the Elmira area I stumbled on this B&B. It was well priced and rated well so we went ahead and booked it. Upon arrival, the host took us around the home and showed us all the rooms that were unoccupied as well as a quick historical tour of the main rooms including a working billiard room. The room was spacious and had a jetted tub with a very large bathroom and a gas fireplace. It was however, very flowery with a strong older feminine influence along with a strong flowery smell (my male partner did not seem to notice the air fresheners so maybe I'm a bit sensitive). The hosts then proceeded to recommend places to eat and gave us free wine tasting coupons for the area. The restaurant had exceptional food even though it was a very long wait. Breakfast at the Painted Lady was phenomenal. It was fresh and original and very filling. The hosts are both very personable and the service was impressive.
