“Gray Barn Cottage Fan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Finished a stay with colleagues at the Gray Barn Cottage, in it's "undisclosed location" - gotta say, it's kind of annoying when you try to book this expensive house, and they won't tell you where it is until you check in - but it is truly fabulous.
If you're curious, it's on Buell Lane, still within the village, and a 10-minute walk tops to the center of the village - but a car might do you some good compared to the inn which is crawling distance to the shops of the village.
All that being said, the pictures on line do this property no justice - it's really fabulous. We stayed here in the winter, which I think really suits the dark wood, stone fireplace and comfortable feel of the house.
I was overall very pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: The house has two parts - the main, and a "Carriage house" for lack of a better term. If y...

“Charming B & B with subtle blue chip elegance!”

The Inn is found across the street from the famous EH windmill and in season I guess that guests breakfast in the sun room over looking the yellow landmark. We arrived on a bleak wintery day in January and found the dining room very charming. . As a matter of fact, having been in EH many times during the summer, it was a pleasure NOT dealing with mobs of tourists, late dinner reservations and endless beach traffic The town has a sizable year round population that makes a visit off season an option and a bargain (of sorts). . We had a delicious dinner at the East Hampton Grill Resatuant (a five miute walk from the Inn) and a spectacular walk along the beach in near solitude. The Inn offers a generous array of snacks and drinks as well as one of the most elaborate breakfast menus. I had a lobster fritata served with a fresh fruit platter and endless coffee plus the NYT! We stayed on the third floor in a cozy bedroom with a flat screen TV (I'm not a purist, I love having a TV) and a very snazzy bathroom with soaking tub and fabulous shower and every bathroom item you may need. But the best feature was still to be. The kingsize bed was glorious...an amalgam of fine linens and down causing the sensation of floating away!. There's hardly any thing to find lacking at this exceptional property if you can handle the price point. In season (which is about 4 times the off season price) the rates go through the roof. That being said, life is short and the Mill House Inn is so delightful, my advice -- GO FOR IT and ENJOY!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade if they say they're booked at a lesser rate.

“Such a fantastic vacation!”

My boyfriend and I came here for a relaxing weekend away from the city and had the perfect vacation. The staff was wonderful and from the very beginning, by allowing us to check in early, explaining what everything was in the well-stocked mini-bar with every kind of soda, juice, as well as cookies, snacks, and even fruit and cheese platters, as well as always offering to get us whatever we needed. We stayed in room 7- Hampton Holiday and were very comfortable. The ceilings are slanted in the room so if you are tall, you may be uncomfortable but neither of us had a problem. The shower was AMAZING with great water pressure and we loved the bath and used it a lot.

The breakfast was wonderful. We made a reservation the first day but forgot the second day, but did not have to wait. They make their own orange juice which was awesome. You get a huge fruit platter, with about 10 bowls of different fruits and a mint/champagne/honey syrup that is really good. The fruit is perfectly ripe and they even mix it up a bit. It was the perfect start. Both days, the waiter was very attentive and the chef even came out to see how we liked our meals.

The breakfast is so big we were able to make that the main meal of the day, with an early dinner although we did have many snacks from the mini-bar as well. The town is lovely and the inn is right off the main street, with about a 30 minute walk to the beach.

We had such a lovely time on our trip and plan to return for many years!

Room Tip: We loved room #7 which was a great size with a huge bathroom but if you are tall, you may not like t...

Stayed there last Summer to the tune of $1500 per night. We had the worst experience and would never stay there again. They don't care about service or making the guest happy. We had many problems including being locked out of our room serveral times by their "new" system and they wouldn't do a thing about it. I would never stay there again and neither should you.

The Mill House Inn is a small Boutique Luxury Hotel with a Resident Manager and Innkeepers residing on property. A General Manager, Front Desk Staff, Housekeeping and Maintenance personnel are also on property 18 hours a day. We take our Brand of Hamptons Hospitality very seriously; the MHI Team takes great pride in delivering exceptional guest services and outstanding accommodations.

Our guest to staff ratio is often one to one, assuring prompt service and exceptional attention to detail. We believe that our check-in procedures are equally important; we explain in detail hotel amenities, services offered and how everything works! Our staff cares, they care about every detail of a guest’s stay, from the moment the reservation is taken to well after the guest has returned safely home.

Even with constant maintenance, systems may fail and it is important to have a contingency plan. When this guest checked in the HVAC system was being repaired and the suite was already being cooled with brand new ultra quiet portable AC units. When management was alerted that the suite was too cold we explained that the auto-temp setting might be more appropriate than being continuously set on High. When we explained the AC settings the guest was satisfied. We do understand the allure of Ceiling Fans, AC and Fireplaces being used simultaneously, though they may conflict at times. We were there to relight the fireplace as needed and adjusted the pilot light - hoping the guest would enjoy a cozy fire on a warm summer evening!

Unfortunately the guest was locked out of their room once. The new electronic lock was checked several times and found to be in proper working order. We explained that the door needed to be completely closed for the lock to function properly. Staff did explain that we would immediately respond to a call any time day or night, fortunately there was no further incident.

Overall, the interaction we had with the guest was very positive. At no time during the stay did the guest voice any discontent with their accommodations or afford the Inn and its management the opportunity to try and make their stay more comfortable; a chance all of us would have valued. After receiving a chargeback inquiry from the credit card company three months after the departure date listing these complaints, we offered the guest a free night on us for a future stay. We hope he will take us up on this offer and experience our hospitality at its best.

“Wonderful rooms and great staff made a memorable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We used it as a base to explore Sag Harbour and the rest of the Hamptons.
Came from Perth Australia and stayed for 2 days in December (should have been at least a week) after a week in NYC, and from the time we walked in till the reluctant goodbyes, it was perfect. The complimentary snacks, freshly baked items and drinks on arrival and throughtout our stay are first class, so are the room furnishing, the little touches (fruit/ chocalates) in the room and the breakfast's are, well, they just made it memorable.
The staff made us feel very welcome and we will be back next time in USA, and hope they take us up on our invites to them if ever in Perth.

Room Tip: Just relax and enjoy the experience
