“Very nice place. On-site restaurant is a gem.”

We stopped by for a night in late rainy night in December. It wasn't very busy, which is to be expected, as it appears that this place really shines in the summer with it's lakeside location, outdoor pool and deck bar. I'll have to come back then. Otherwise, our visit was great. Speedy check-in, spectacular lobby and good room. Comfy bed and pillows. Place is undergoing some renovation (cosmetic, so new marble floors were in. Hopefully new carpet in the hall ways come next :o) Only downside was a meagre selection of channels on the TV. Wireless was good. Topping off our last night on a three-day visit through upstate NY was an excellent meal at the on-site restaurant (Windjammer). The seafood chowder and Delmonico steak were five-star, as was the service. My wife's Beef Wellington was equally fantastic. Veggies done to perfection, etc. The free breakfast was quite good, too.

Room Tip: Don't forget to ask for a room on the lake side.

“Clean, Quiet, and Convienent”

We stay here each year in September for a Western NY/PA winery tour and grape picking weekend. The property is nice (right on the lake) next to the public boat launch, the rooms are clean, and the internet works great. Check in and out has always been easy (both right at check in time and late in the evening), and the breakfast isn't bad, either (standard hot buffet, cereals, fruits, and juices/coffee). The beds are comfortable and always smell clean. We have never had a problem with noise in the hallway, the heat/air conditioning has always worked fine, and there has always been enough hot water for us (we travel as a group of four). We will use this hotel again in September 2012.

“Not a bad choice in Dunkirk/Fredonia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We've stayed at four different Dunkirk/Fredonia hotels over the past few years, but never the Clarion until recently. It is certainly superior to the hideous Days Inn and decent if not spectacular. Parts of the facility are well maintained (nice lobby, decent restaurant/bar) while other areas are tacky (the carpet in our room was repaired with duct tape in two spots; the shower head didn't really work properly). As there are no outstanding performers in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area, this is about as good as it gets. Mediocre +. Right on the water on Route 5. Pretty view or harbor, etc. as long as you overlook the power plant.

“One Night Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

First let me start out by saying that my husband & I have stayed @ this hotel many time over the years. There appears to be some up dating going on. Outside of the front lobby landscapers were erecting a retaining wall. The lobby was pleasant & inviting looking.

Check in was easy we asked for an early check in and adjoining room and we received both. Of all the times we have stayed @ this hotel as early as last year, this was the most tired of the room we have ever been given. The door to the adjoining room had a chair in front of it. Maybe so you may not notice that the door was warped at the top near the hinge. Some what of an eye sore but it still closed. The duvets were old and were showing signs of wear, how ever the bed & pillows were very comfortable. There was a large tube TV (big back) that every channel was like watching a white out. The water faucet in the bath room sprayed out to the right all over the counter.

I told the young man @ the desk shortly after checking in, about the TV problem and he said that someone would come up to check on it. Using a restaurant.com coupon we had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The food & service was very good. After dinner we went to a concert on the pier. This was the reason we were in town. We returned to are room only to find out that the TV was not fixed. If it could even be fixed! During check out I told them again and the girl acted as if she wrote it down. I feel that the money spent on landscaping would have been better spent on flat screen TV. As for us we spent very little time in our room and it was only for one night. We will stay again when in the area for a event. The complimentary breakfast buffet was a plus.

“Messed up my reservation and then wanted to charge me more.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Was here for a wedding. Goods and bads.

First the bad- Incompetent and rude staff messed up my reservation and then wanted to charge me more. Poor water pressure in shower. Oh, and my phone would not work at all in the room. Also, it's in the crap-hole of Dunkirk, so.....

And the goods- pretty comfortable room and bed. And the outside bar was pretty cool; it was a saturday night and they had a live band. That's about it.
