We booked the Comfort Inn in Cortland because it was midnight and we were too tired to keep driving. We are loyal to the Choice Hotels brand and their points system. The 800 number helped us find the hotel, but I wanted to see it before we booked. The lobby was a good size and had a sunken lounge room, with a big fireplace like a lodge. There were no business computers available, so we had to call the 800 number again to actually book, since you can only get points through the website or 800 number. We were given a king suite on the second floor. Unfortunately, there is no elevator and that is difficult when you've got a few things to lug up. The second floor, which seemed to be mostly non-smoking rooms, had a distinct "smoking odor." When we got to our room, there was no problem. The room was fresh and clean. A very generous size, with a separate sofabed and large table. There was plenty of room here, there could easily have been a refrigerator and microwave which are often found in these suites. We were only spending the night, so it didn't matter much. Even though Route 81 was outside our window, we did not hear any noise overnight! The night manager had given us a coupon for a discounted breakfast at the attached Perkins restaurant, but we did not need it. The hotel has recently upgraded their breakfast to be a more complete, hot breakfast. There were scrambled eggs & sausage, two flavors of waffles, coffee, juices, bagels, toast, yogurt, and a whole host of the usual continental breakfast selections. It was very generous and suited us fine. It looks like some remodeling is being done, and hopefully the breakfast items will be altogether on one side of this huge lounge area instead of all around the room. To make this a better hotel, I would recommend a few things: 1) Install an elevator 2) Get a PC for guest use 3) Improve ventilation in hallways 4) Fix lounge area/breakfast room to be more efficient 5) Consider adding a swimming pool
Room Tip: Book early; it was surprising how full the hotel was considering that college was out of session.
