“Great weekend!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

If you have never been to Hope Lake, this place is amazing. You will be surprise when you go that this gem is located in central NY. We had a great stay at the lodge. The service was great, the food excellent and the staff is all very nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable with lots of extras! We had a ball at the Adventure Center. Even thought the weather has not been great for skiing, the Adventure Center and Indoor Water Park offer entertainment for the whole family. Althought I didn't use it, they have a beutiful SPA that looked very relaxing. I would stay there again and recommend them to anyone.

Room Tip: There are lots of options, so look around to be sure to get the room that fits your needs and size o...

“Some hit, some miss.”

This is a a very nice property, but as others have stated before me, it is very unorganized.

I traveled with my husband, our 2.5 year old daughter, my sister and my father.

The hotel staff upon checking in told us that they had no record of payment in full via Expedia, which was done in December, and not to worry about it until check out. I was of course worried about a $900.00 + charge that was already paid in full. The night before check out, my husband and I spend a total of at least one hour at the from desk trying to get our bill corrected. By midnight, we had given up and went to bed, Upon waking, we had a note stating that the charges had been corrected, but I still have my doubts and we will be diligently checking out credit card bill for the next few months.

Checking into the room it appeared very nice. Upon opening the dishwasher, it was discovered that it was filled with dirty dishes. I had to run this and empty it upon arrival. Not fun to cleanup someone else's mess first thing.

The waterpark was nice for smaller children, but NOT all worth the $35.00 per person that they were charging. There were only two slides for adults over 18 (the other two medium height slides were reserved for guests under 18. (Like 12-18) There were 3 slides for toddlers as well as a wave pool, so our daughter was thriiled. As adults, it was very disappointing. Not worth the money. (Check out Splash Lagoon in Erie PA, WOW! Much cheaper ad HUGE.) The cafe inside the pool area was VERY expensive. ($3.50 for a vitamin water, what??) Take my advice, take a pool bag and take in your own drinks.)

Over all, I think the waterpark should have been no more than $19.99 per person, and kids under 5 free. It is open to the public too, yet, no discount for those staying at the expensive property. Unfair, really.

The arcade was fun, and little one loved it; EXPENSIVE however. The arcade staff was awesome, tho. Ask for James. He was fantastic. (We did have one instance there in the arcade trying to buy tokens and were told that we needed to go to the front desk for a wrist band, which of course didn't work.)

We ordered a pizza from the Acorn Grill, and went down to pick it up at the right time, but it was burnt and we had to wait for another. Good point was that the manager gave us four free desserts for the inconvenience, which was nice. (His name was Matthew, and is a dead ringer for the young John Cusack.) The pizza itself ended up being fantastic.

The free valet was awesome. The younger guys were always eager to help, but the older one had to be tracked down. Not a big deal really.

There is a shuttle to take you across the street to the ski and tubing area, which is supposed to come every 15 minutes. No dice. No sign as to where to stand, nothing. We walked every time but once (drive with the little one), and it's not a short walk. The front desk of the hotel said there were two tubing areas, when in fact there was only one. (Again, communication!)

The tubing was pricey - $25.00 for 5 hours, which had to be used all in the same day. They sold us a 5 hours pass, but the tubing hill only had 4 hours left to be open, so we lost an hour right there. As we go to the top of the hill, we were told that the tubing hill closes early every night, so get it in while you can. Seriously? We already paid for an extra hour which we weren't getting, and now they are closing early? What a rip off. We ended up paying for 5 hours and only got three. Never again. Rip off.

Some other travelers mentioned a wristband for access to their rooms and vending machines. We were never offered these, so when my little one wanted a snack, I had to go to the desk and get one, which never worked. Back to the desk. UNORGANIZED. Imagine all of that with a crying two year old in tow. Not fun.

My sister and I checked into the spa offerings and decided that they were far too over priced and passed on all.

The gift shop hours were never correct. It was almost always closed.

The outdoor roller coaster was actually fabulous. At $10.00 a person per ride it was a bit steep, but it was close to worth it. Try it!

Over all, we were looking for a family friendly resort in which to spend my birthday, and it was ok. The kids activities advertised never transpired.

Will we return? NO. Look elsewhere.

Room Tip: We chose a suite, room 217 A, B, and C. Looked much better online than in person. Says it can fit...

Hello,
We strive for an experience that reflects so many of the positive remarks we have received both here on this site as well as guest comments at the hotel. Overall, we are glad that you had a good time. On the other hand we are very sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced from the misdirection received from some of our staff. We have ongoing training in place and I will be following up with our manager regarding the issues that you expressed. Thank you for spending your birthday with us, and we hope that you choose to visit Hope Lake Lodge in the future.

“ski trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The lodge itself is very nice. New, clean, and a warm feeling as you walk into the lobby. The reason for the stay was to ski which was less than perfect due to weather. The only complaint I could offer about the lodge is this. House cleaning. They did come in and provide us new towels each day but never did they use the vacuum. Thought they should have taken the time to do so.

“Beautiful Lodge, Great Suites, Nice Waterpark....pricey!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We knew about your lodge, after taking several ski trips to Greek Peak. We had been planning to schedule a visit to Hope Lake Lodge, but didn't have an opportunity until this weekend. We had peeked at your website several times to look into possible ownership, due to our love of skiing at Greek Peak. This weekend we decided to reserve a one-night stay at your property, while traveling to a gymnastics meet in Syracuse. We have three children, and were happy to find you could accommodate us for a last-minute one-night stay. We easily reserved a one bedroom suite, with full use of the waterpark for that day.

As expected, your lodge is absolutely beautiful, rustic, and rich in mountain decor. We all enjoyed viewing the architecture, stone fireplace, and wildlife decorations in the lobby. The rooms are quite comfortable, spacious, and offer many conveniences one would expect in a family lodge- full kitchen, adequate lighting, space, plenty of beds, bathroom, vanity area, and two flat screen LCD TVs. The waterpark is perfect for kids/adults-and we thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor heated pool and hot springs!

While there are many positives, it's worth noting we were a little surprised at pricing, a few customer service issues, and the low-value in the Acorn dining room.

Our cost per night for a one-bedroom suite was $387 plus $20pp for use of waterpark that day. Based on the daily room rate, it seemed a little much to ask us for an additional $100 for our family use your waterpark for a few hours that evening, a total of $487. Further, we were surprised to learn that our kids couldn't participate in the evening kid's program, since the deadline to sign-up was 2pm earlier that day (this was stated by a young lady in the arcade area). It would've been helpful to be told about the kids program prior to check-in, as check-in was 4pm (well past the deadline). Finally, when we went down to eat dinner at the Acorn restaurant, we were left standing for several minutes (without a "please wait to be seated" sign anywhere), until one of the servers came up to tell us she would be with us in a minute. After being seated, we waited for 20 minutes to receive our drinks, and over 40-50 minutes to receive our dinner. You can imagine how hungry the kids were at this point- after spending a few hours in the water park. While the food was slightly above average, we found the use of plastic cups/tumblers to be just plain classless. We asked our server about this, and was told it's due to the waterpark. While we understand the need to keep glassware out of the waterpark area, it seemed wrong to enforce that policy in a supposed upscale dining room. As a 4 diamond resort, we expected more here. If you ever get the chance, you may want to consider having dinner at the Lodge at Woodcliff in Rochester, NY. This is exactly the type of dining experience one would expect in a 4 diamond mountain resort.

For those that are planning a trip to Hope Lake Lodge, you will thoroughly enjoy the accommodations, waterpark and skiing. However, your stay will be pricey, and I would not recommend the dining room at this time.

As a family looking into vacation ownership, we are holding off Hope Lake Lodge for now- but will more than likely plan to revisit at some point in the future during a ski trip to Greek Peak.

“Family Fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We had a family get together at Hope Lake Lodge and it was a blast! Not only were the slopes amazing but the waterpark and arcade brought out the innerchild in all of us. The rooms were spacious and uniquely themed. The food and service at the mountain and lodge were excellent. For those of us who did not ski or snowboard, the Waterfalls Spa was a nice relaxing treat. Although it was too cold to zip-line; the adventure center looks like so much fun! We can’t wait to try it out in the spring!
