Mountainman may have ingested a bit too much peyote to think this place is anything but deplorable. Maybe he just has very, very low expectations for his dollar.
I've read the reviews on lodging in Cooperstown in preparation for a trip and was dared to stay at the worst reviewed one for one night. So we did.
Everything that has been written (except mountainman's) about the Cooperstown Motel is 100% true. Right from the get-go; the proprietor is a miser, he talked down to us like we were criminals for putting a Visa card on the front desk. "NO CREDIT CARDS - THE SIGN'S RIGHT HERE" he scolded us. "How do I know you aren't going to deny the credit card company that you were ever here?" He went on for about five minutes about the losses incurred by merchants. So defensive that he obviously has gotten in trouble somewhere in the past. Ironically he would've accepted a personal check! There's an honest form of payment.
Ok so we check into our room with the biggest bed available, a double. The comforter was on it's last leg with tears and holes in it. Aside from the bed there are two rickety pleather coated wooden chairs and a stand with a blown glass 60's lamp with a bright 40 watt bulb. Squeeze in front of the bed and there's an equally old desk with an metal auditorium style chair. The carpet is as filthy as previously mentioned by others so no need to dwell on that. The giant 19" TV's picture comes and goes and there is no remote. No alarm clock, no hair dryer, no telephone or internet access, no fridge, no ice machine, no soda machine, no tissue box either. It is a room. A musty, dank, drafty room with crank open windows that do not close nearly all the way. The bathroom is still the comic relief of this horror story. We had the same dirty little garbage can and mismatched toilet, sink, and tub as other reviewers. It really is such a tight fit that you have to reach for the sink then step back to brush your teeth. The bathroom tiles are all broken and there is a major mildew problem on the floor and ceiling.
Outside we got to see the junk trucks we read all about too.
I'm by no means a demanding traveler but I have never gotten so little for my money.
