A couple weeks prior to the Hall of Fame induction weekend, both me and my wife decided to venture to Cooperstown. We found availability at the Terrace Motor Inn just outside Cooperstown, to the north of the town on the west shore of Otsego Lake. The motel is on the west side of Highway 80 with unobstructed views of the lake - all rooms have a beautiful view of the lake. We indicated that we were traveling with an infant and were set up in a room on the top floor at the end (we were a little worried about us making noise). The walls, it seems, keep out much of the noise as we only heard people making noises loudly while outside their rooms. I am hopeful our little one did not disturb anyone throughout the night! We had indicated to the hotel that we were bringing a little one and they had set up a crib and gave us an additional set of towels without us asking. The service at this hotel was impeccable providing insight about the town, places to eat, where to park etc. And always with a smile. The room itself is typical of the roadside motel - door and window facade while inside the table with bed(s) and a 3 piece bathroom at the rear. There was a table with two chairs by the window, so it was rather lovely to eat dinner here. I note that The Blue Mingo Grill is not far from the hotel, so if you would like a good meal (not fast food) to bring back to the room, it is worth picking food up from here - I just ordered from the bar. Back to the hotel - it does have a pool and the grounds are well kept. The inside of our room was very clean. The TV was quite old (though when on vacation I never watch TV, so hardly a complaint on my part) and there was not a phone in the room. I was a little disappointed in the breakfast selection offered. After our first day there, I proceeded to go into one of the nice shops in Cooperstown instead to get breakfast (Stagecoach Coffee was a good spot). If in Cooperstown, be advised that there are few chain restaurants around (refreshing for me - I love not seeing McDonalds, Burger King etc) so be sure to look up some restaurants in the town before you go. It is definitely a drive to get to Cooperstown and even a drive to get to the trolley stop. And there are not restaurants immediately nearby the hotel (The Blue Mingo seems to be the closest). Of note, there is a dock and water access at this hotel. It was a little expensive, but then again, we were there for the inauguration weekend - probably the most popular of the year. Overall, the Terrace Motor Inn was a very nice place to stay for three nights providing us a nice quiet room where we certainly could not hear any neighbours or the highway, and very helpful and exceedingly friendly hosts helping to make our trip very much worthwhile.
