“Charming B & B but terrible for sleeping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2009

2 Chestnut is a charming B & B, beautifully decorated, and immaculate. Doug and Sue were lovely, very welcoming and gracious. The breakfast was good, not copious, but adequate if you're not a big eater. My only disappointment was the bed. We stayed in the Natty Bumpo room and the mattress was NOT queen size, (it was full or double), and extremely uncomfortable! Neither one of us could sleep. I'm sorry to say I would never consider staying there again unless the bed was replaced.

“Comfortable and Well Located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2009

We stayed at 2 Chestnut over a summer weekend. While the Glimmerglass Opera was what brought us to Cooperstown, we first-time visitors found a lot to do in the area, from hiking to walking through town to visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame. Two Chestnut is a marvelous spot from which to tour the area. It is located just a short distance from the lakefront on a beautiful street, and is a short walk to any of the attractions in the town center.

Our hosts were very genial, our room extremely comfortable and well furnished. Having a couple of arm chairs in one room makes sitting out showers or just taking a break to read very easy and pleasant. Breakfast was delicious. The house is beautiful inside and out, and conveys the feeling of a familiar place visited rather than "lodging."

A wonderful place to stay.

“When you're here, you're family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

My husband and I have been staying at 2 Chestnut for many years now. We go every summer for the Glimmerglass Opera Festival. We've seen the evolution of the property from "old historic house" to lovely, fresh, bed and breakfast. Sue and Doug have done wonders with the place. We highly recommend this B & B. Accomodations are lovely, breakfast is great, public areas (living room, dining room) are elegant, yet you feel like you're at home. It is also very quiet and private and we love that. If you have a family with young children, this is not a great choice, but if you're looking for a few great days in a beautiful and historic home, close to all the "action" (such as it is) in Cooperstown, this is the place! (PS -- there's wireless internet access...)

“Great Place to Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2007

We spent 3 nights in this lovely Bed and Breakfast in September this year. The location is perfect for the Baseball Hall of Fame. It is also located across from the Otesaga Hotel which is a great place to go for dinner or a drink. The Inn itself was very clean and comfortable. Our innkeeper Sue was very friendly. She was happy to recommend restaurants and activities in the area. A great place to stay!

“Loved 2 Chestnut”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2007

My husband and I stayed at 2 Chestnut for three nights at the end of June 2007, opting for this over the Otesaga Hotel, the beautiful grand hotel on the lake across the street. We have come to Cooperstown for an annual meeting at the Otesaga and just wanted something different! We were not disappointed! 2 Chestnut is a beautiful Victorian B&B that has been nicely furnished and decorated. The innkeepers, brother and sister, were very accommodating and helpful. Full breakfast served every morning, cooked how you like it. Rooms and baths were very clean. We stayed 2 nights in one room on the second floor, the third on the third floor (we knew this ahead of time). My only complaint was that we were awakened early one morning during our stay on the second floor by the sound of creaking floorboards above us, so I would recommend the third floor rooms if you plan to sleep in. Otherwise, we had a great stay and would definitely return. Easy walk into town to the Baseball Hall of Fame, farmer's market Saturday morning, and shops and restaurants. Farmer's Museum is about a mile up the road along the lake.

  • Liked — spacious rooms, homey feeling, not a hotel!
  • Disliked — creaky floorboards
