“Some Hits/ Some Misses”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

person found this review helpful

The Hits: Good breakfasts, great location, quiet & attractive rooms, friendly critters. (4 cats)

The Misses: No one was home on 2 occasions when I had questions relating to my stay. (early evening)

I had to make my own bed-something I didn't expect at $135 a night, & a 1st in my B&B experience.

The impression is that the proprietor is more focused on growing her new business than tending to her old one.

In response to "Barki", thank you for the kind words about our cats and breakfasts.

Regarding your other comments, perhaps it was not made clear enough that your stay with us included two of our early week "dark days", when we usually do not accept guests. Those days are devoted to our other endeavors. The exception was made in your case and the courtesy of Bryn Brooke Manor was extended to accommodate your traveling schedule during the heavy summer traffic. We also discounted the room rate significantly ($40 per night).

We regret any misunderstanding regarding the nature and timing of your visit and fervently hope that the balance of your visit to Cooperstown was to your liking.

My husband and I just got back from a stay at the Bryn Brook Manor, and boy were we impressed. The house is impeccable, with clean and spacious rooms. Brenda and her family were very nice and helpful - and the breakfasts were superb. This place is truly a gem!

“Bryn Brooke the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2006

I had never visited Cooperstown before but love baseball, and chose Bryn Brooke out of the blue because of the double "B" (a la base-ball) in its name -- not scientific or researched, but sometimes you just have to go with the karma. It was a great choice. I loved the old, historic house, was thrilled about the lovely swimming pool, and the breakfasts were top notch. The staff was friendly, too, which I really appreciated since I was traveling alone. I felt I had gone back in time, and just relaxed in this charming place with warm hospitality. Bryn Brooke is the best!

To Burlingame, CA:
Thanks for your compliments regarding our location, which is singular and special within the Village of Cooperstown, and for highlighting the point that we are interesting, which we strive to be on fronts!

Our lovely Victorian has many attributes, but all guest rooms are on the second floor. We are happy to recommend wonderful accommodations within the village (cvbaba.com) that meet handicapped requirements. Over the course of ten years of safety inspections we are proud to say that we have met or exceeded all requirements of Otsego County standards, including those regarding hand rails.

The blanket statement that "children are not welcomed" is inaccurate. The five children under the age of fourteen (coincidentally also from Burlingame) left unsupervised and who inflicted significant damage while their parents were at a local restaurant would likely not be asked back.

Our recent decision to request that all of our guests be over the age of 18 was based on the liability connected to our swimming pool and the presence of minors on property, not on any disdain of the shorter set.

Bryn Brooke Manor welcomes both opera and baseball fans with equal warmth and hospitality and we happily engage in fervent conversation about America's game(particularly the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Cardinals) and its profound effect on on American culture, character, and lexicon.
