“Another Cooperstown Delight!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I have made several trips to Cooperstown and to change things up a little we decided to stay at the Landmark Inn. I am, to a fault, very picky so the switch made me a little nervous.
We arrived mid-day and were greeted by the very knowledgeable and warm innkeeper. After we had settled in, and since the inn was quiet, the inn keeper was hospitable enough to show my husband and I around the inn and feed our love of architecture and home design. We were also given a brief history of the property.
Our room was small but lovely. It was very clean and we wanted for nothing in terms of room provisions. My only criticism of the room is a small one and it would be that, as another reviewer mentioned, we were perpetually saving our pillows that fell off the back of the bed due to a lack of proper headboard. As well, the room was in desperate need of a new mattress and needed to be moved away from the wall so that we were not forced to crawl over one another in the middle of the night if one of us needed to get out of bed. In my opinion, if an establishment is going to be a B & B it’s important to have a great bed!
Breakfast was wonderful, homemade, fresh and delightfully different every day. And as someone who loves attention to detail, I truly appreciated the use of different and beautiful china and glassware at each breakfast.
For the most part, the inn was quiet and private even though it was fully booked during our stay. Truly the only thing I missed from our usual B & B choice in Cooperstown was fresh lemonade on the veranda. Overall, I would not hesitate to stay at the Landmark again, though we will likely try a different room and hope for an improvement in the bed.

“Beautiful inn with great innkeepers; just working on that last star.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife, 5-year-old son and I met my friends and their 8-year-old son in Cooperstown for New Year's 2011-2012. We originally booked three nights at the White House Inn because it was rated so highly on Trip Adviser. Due to a booking error on their part, the White House Inn -- which has the same owners as the Landmark -- offered us a discount for agreeing to do just the first night at the Landmark, then the other two at the White House. We saw some of the reviews of the Landmark on here and were nervous, but we agreed, and we are glad we did! We always go to inns that are highly rated (we've been to about 20 B&Bs in the northeast, before and after having become parents). Because we are so selective, we are usually satisfied, and this was no exception: both these inns were very nice (I did a separate review of the White House Inn). We had two small suites, each with their own bathroom. The rooms and suites were very clean (my wife said so as well; this is not just a man's opinion). The staff was very friendly. The inn is charming to look at, outside and in. There are a lot of common areas for lounging around. The walk to the hall of fame is under 10 minutes. An excellent restaurant (Alex & Ika) is barely a 5-minute walk away. I'd love to have rated it 5 stars! The only negative was that breakfast was only average. There was nothing wrong with it -- we had waffles with sausage and the kids had pancakes with sausage, and everyone got fruit, juice, and coffee. It was just that the waffles, pancakes, sausage, fruit, and beverages were all mediocre, and at a B&B, you are looking for superior breakfast. Now, if you don't care that much about breakfast, or if you are easily pleased by it, you can consider this inn a 5-star. But to keep things honest, I gave it 4 to figure in the breakfast. However, in fairness to the owners, I want to mention here that they are very concerned about the reviews and the complaints about breakfast being just so-so, and they told me they are planning to improve it. One of the owners, who personally makes the excellent, delicious breakfasts at the White House Inn, said that he would likely oversee making the Landmark breakfasts better in response to the lackluster reception the current breakfasts have been receiving. So, it is entirely possible that by the time you would stay here, the breakfasts will be as good as the rest of the inn. I would consider this inn as an alternative to the White House Inn for my next trip to Cooperstown, and perhaps I would even choose it over the White House Inn if the breakfast were as good, as it may soon be!

Room Tip: Suite 6 was great for a family of 3 (one room, but a queen bed and a twin, and enough space for a fa...

“Clean and pretty B&B but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

The B&B is pretty and clean. The staff is very nice and helpful, and the owner was very friendly and very helpful for any questions. It's in a good location. Breakfast was homemade and good. My criticism would be that the beds didn't have headrests or a headboard so your pillows have to be placed right up against the wall to sit up and read or watch tv. The tv needs replacing and the cable reception is fuzzy at best and not much variety, and the tv was situated in the corner so between the uncomfortable wall and angle, you needed a chiropractor after getting up! Worst was, despite the room being clean, the pillows didn't have liners on them. Even they had, the smell of what sure smells like prior male guests was so overwhelming that it overtook the room. I had to get the towels to lay them over the pillows because I couldn't take the smell. And the "pillows:" in my experience are those cheap ones you throw in a sham for appearance only. So long and short is they need to get some headboards, get some nice pillows, LINE them, and toss them out often and buy new ones so no one else has the same experience. Otherwise, plus the tv situation, this definitely would've been higher rated.

“Great location. Very clean. Pleasant staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

The location is great. Easy walk to main street and the lake. The inn was tastefully decorated for,the holidays. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was okay. Not great. One of my waffles was thin and a bit undercooked. The sausage was okay. Both could have been hotter. On the plus side, it was nice to have cantaloupe in December. Would have been nice to have cookies or another sweet out in the afternoon. There appeared to be some "chex mix" type of snack in a large jar, but it was almost empty.

When in the area, we will likely stay there again.

“Great staff, alright facilities”

The bed, location, and cleanliness were fine. The staff was wonderful. The walls, however, were paper thin. I stayed in Room 9, and now know that the person next door likes to sing country music. Badly. I was there for business, so cannot speak for the value, but would not pay as much for it as others have.
