“What a Find!”

I've never been a Bed & Breakfast person, but I have nothing but the highest praise for The White House Inn. My wife, two adult children, and I spent a wonderful winter weekend there as part of a birthday celebration that had as its centerpiece a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame. But The White House Inn nearly upstaged the Hall. We booked the Carriage House, which has two bedrooms with their own baths, a common living area with a half bath, and a kitchenette. It was great. Comfortable, roomy, clean, and well heated (very important when it's below zero outside). Particularly fulfilling were the daily sumptuous breakfasts served in the main house where we had a chance to mingle with the other guests. We all look forward to a return visit. Hospitality is alive and well and is personified by Ed, Marjorie, Mary and Pattie at The White House Inn.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with family or friends and need two bedrooms, go for the Carriage House.

“What a great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The Whitehouse Inn is within walking distance of all things to do in Cooperstown. Better yet, it is a GREAT, comfortable, welcoming home away from home. The warmth and hospitality of Ed, Marge, Patty and Mary are beyond compare. The breakfasts are phenomenal! Would recommend The Whitehouse Inn to one and all!

Room Tip: We were in the green room in the Carriage House

The entire staff (Owner Ed and Margie, Innkeeper Patty and Mary) make you feel at home from the time you enter this warm and comfy Inn. Top notch service, a great breakfast (hope Ed makes his lemon pancakes for you as they are outstanding or his eggs with cream cheese and chives or his sausage made in apple juice). You are greeted with a big Hello upon check in. While I was there a guest was to check in around 8pm. Not sure why but they checked in at 11pm. Ed waited for them and those guests received the the same big hello as I received when I checked in at 4:30pm. The rooms are very clean and the entire staff are outstanding. I travel to Cooperstown once a year in the winter time and have being staying at the White House Inn for four years. You can not go wrong stayng here. While there ask Ed to show you his Wall of Fame.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with another couple of children request the Carriage House. Two seperate bedroo...

“Did I ever tell you about Mary?”

Patty, the Innkeeper, and owners Ed and Margie Landers have created a very special place here in the tiny village of Cooperstown. A beautiful setting and a warm caring ambiance sets the stage for a fabulous stay while visiting the many museums in and around town, not the least of which is the Baseball Hall of Fame. Coming here to the inn is like coming home to family and a caring and attentive staff make the stay unforgetable. EVERY TIME! But, like it was when I was in the US Navy, behind every good officer, there is the strong support of a great Chief Petty Officer. When you come to the Inn, say hello to Mary. She's the go to girl for most things and her being part of the staff demonstrates just how important Ed, Margie and Patty feel about top-notch service. Mary provides such service at each request and her friendly demeanor adds to the specialness of the stay. Come to Cooperstown and stay at the Inn, just once, and like me, you'll be hooked. Again, like me, you might even make it an annual wintertime event!

Room Tip: If you're coming to the Inn with another couple or friend, ask for the Carriage House. Two sepa...

“I can see why this inn is rated so highly by so many”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I booked the White House Inn for three nights for a group of six (two families of three, each with two adults and a child). Because of a booking error on their part (an overlap of our first night with the last night of another group's reservation of the same suite), they offered to put us up for our first night in the Landmark Inn, which they also own, at a substantial discount. We accepted, and it turned out that the Landmark was an excellent inn, so we are glad to have discovered both for less than the price of just the one (see my separate review of the Landmark Inn). As for this inn, everything was just great. The inn is charming inside and out, with several staircases, winding hallways, nooks and crannies, and a great two-bedroom carriage house suite (where we stayed). The rooms were clean and the owners were on site a lot and very friendly and helpful (for instance, a light bulb was out, and they immediately replaced it and apologized for the inconvenience). The breakfasts here were top notch. The owner made it himself both days (I'm not even sure he had any help with the cooking; he had some help with the service). Both days started with fresh fruit and mini-muffins, then a decadent breakfast course with a side of delicious large slabs of bacon (you don't go to a B&B for weight watchers food). The first day's decadent breakfast course was french toast, and the second day's was a cottage-cheese-based pancake with a lemony triple-berry syrup. These things were unique and delicious, and the owner and his staff were so friendly in the service of the delicious food that we wouldn't have minded if they had just sat down and eaten with us. Juice and coffee flowed freely and was fine as well. This is what you are looking for in a B&B. We would certainly like to stay here again the next time we come to Cooperstown (or in the Landmark -- especially if Ed gets his breakfast skills going over at the Landmark as well).

Room Tip: The Carriage House is a separate building with two bedrooms (a king and a queen, each with private b...
