“Relaxing, old school Catskill's experience”

My wife and I have been coming here since 2000. We are both motorcycle riders and this is the perfect place to stay if you want to do a few days riding in and around the park. The rooms have a very 1950's motor lodge feel to them - nothing fancy, but very comfortable and clean and very moderately priced. Located at the intersection of Rt 32 & 23A, you are just a few miles from the road up into Tannersville and the mountains.
A great feature of the Red Ranch is Angela's Restaurant which is adjacent to the hotel. Nothing fancy, but very good straight up Italian pasta & pizza. It's great after a long day of riding to walk to Angela's & enjoy a couple of glasses of wine knowing we can walk back to the hotel.
But be forewarned - the bridge that connects 32 to 23a (about 1/4 mile from the hotel) was damaged by Irene & is now closed. You have to go back down 32 to 32a & then go up to 23a - a very minor detour (2-3 miles).

Room Tip: Corner rooms are quieter if you like to sleep late

“We wouldn't go back even if it was for free!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Every Labor Day weekend, group of relatives, all go to Catskills for laughs and fun times...this year we all stayed at the Red Ranch Motel...OMG!!!! never again....owners were very unfriendly and not really pleasant for people who run a business. Would never recommend if you want to have a good time, felt like we were being watched every minute of the day. We all went to the pool.....only 6 lounge chairs!!! Too many rules to follow. Owner asked us (adults, not even kids) to play the game in progress in front of our own rooms....we were a few steps in front of an unoccupied room. We, adults, had enough common sense not to play in front of rooms where other guest were staying. You weren't allowed to make loud noise after 10pm. Get this, no drinking cups allowed around pool. The rooms were nice and clean, and price was good but again would not recommend if you want to have a fun little vacation.

Hi-
I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. Let me explain a few things. Firstly, our county was in a state of emergency due to Hurricane Irene, and many roads were closed, bridges collapsed, and the National Guard was stationed 10 mile away, so it wasn't the most pleaseant of times, but we did remain open. Pool chairs- while there are 6 lounge chairs, there are about 10 more regular chairs there. Your group rented 4 rooms, but took over the sidewalk in front of 6 rooms. Lawn games and a group of 6 seated people inches in front or 2 other rooms that were not currently occupied, but certainly were going to be occupied at any moment since it was a holiday weekend. I will not rent someone a room with 6-8 people setting up shop right in front of a room, it isn't proper. I wouldn't rent you a room with a group of people right in front of your door, and in the driveway where the parking is. As for not being able to make loud noises after 10PM at night, as posted on the buildings, isn't that just common sense and being respectful to other guests? By the way, your group wasn't noisy, so why should this offend you? As for the "no drinking cups at the pool" as you stated, this is 100% incorrect, as the sign says "NO GLASS CONTAINERS", which is a Dept. of Health ordinace. Lastly, if we are so unaccommodating, why did we let one of your rooms stay 1.5 hours after checkout without saying a word or asking for a late check out fee?

“I very much enjoyed my stay”

I was here for four days in early July. My previous two stays were in 2009-I think twice.

It was a very good location to where I was visiting-the traditional Catholic convent in Round Top. I didn't have very far to go.

Everything in the room was clean and neat.-lots of towels! I liked the cable TV-good thing it had the Catholic network EWTN! I had a downstairs room this last time-much easier trying to 'schlep' my bags from the car to the door!

Went to Angela's next door a couple times. Got dinner to take back to my room-that was convenient. Otherwise I went over to Cairo to the Dunkin' Donuts/Subway shop to get food to bring back.

The people I talked to on the phone (when making reservations) and at the front desk were very kind and helpful. This is a very nice place to stay when in the Catskills!

“Nice place, nice people, great stay!”

We were volunteering at the Catskill animal Sancutary in the hot part of the summer and wanted a nice clean place with a pool and close places to eat - after driving by other aweful looking places and closed up ones, we were very happy to see how nicely kept the Red Ranch is and were happy that the pool was as large and clean as it was, too. Our room was comfortable and large enough for the 3 of us. The mattresses were very comfortable - fairly new I would guess. Even the pillows were comfy- and I get stiff necks from pillows easily. It's family owned, with young but well bahved kids kids, and they live right there - that was a good sign. The ping-pong table and game room are definitley a plus for kids! (The see-saw was a GAS, too!) The restaurant next door was a few stepos away and had a good Italian menu at reasonable prices. We are definitely coming back when we wish to stay overnight in the area again. I highly recommend the Red Ranch Motel!
