“Best part of Alumnus Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

My husband and I stayed at White Pillars in Jul 2008 in the Adirondak Suite. It made for a nice escape in a well-appointed house/room. The decor was theme-y without being overdone. (It is the Adirondacks after all.) Noticed real antiques and authentic high-quality materials throughout the house, as expected for a good B&B. The older home had been restored with care for its original chracter. We loved that they kept the sleeping porch as a sleeping porch, and it provided 2 out of 4 total beds we could choose to sleep from in our suite--crazy! The bathroom was bright, clean, and newly remodeled, again in quality materials. The jetted tub with lights was wild! They had a library of DVDs just outside our bedroom for quest use which was a great touch. I also noticed games downstairs. These amenities would have been handy had we been there for a longer stay, or with kids. They have put a lot of time and care into making a very comfortable and attractive place to stay and it shows.

We did not order breakfast in our package as we were visiting my alma mater and at breakfast in the dining hall there for the novelty of it. I can empathize with other reviewers who said the owners were not around, and if I did not know the area well from having gone to St Lawrence, I would be completely lost in the North Country without an innkeeper's help. My husband and I have stayed in several B&Bs and we often prefer them in unfamiliar areas because of the tradition (and somewhat of an expectation) that the hosts will be there to point you in the direction of a fun attraction or restaurant nearby. Since I knew the area quite well, we were able to take care of ourselves, however many changes had been made in the 8 years since I'd graduated and it would have been nice to hear about some of the change from the owners who are locals (and fellow alums).

Tips for good eats while you are staying: Head to Pottsdam a few miles away and go to the Cactus Grill for some pretty good Mexican at a great value. Their margaritas are very good too but college student strength so watch out! Also in Pottsdam is Sergi's Pizza. You must try a ''pizza roll'' which is basically a deep fried stromboli. Fattening as heck but SOOOO good. I have yet to find something like it although a local place will deep fry their strombolis for me but it is never the same at Sergis. Back in college, the late-night post-bar snack of choice was the pizza roll dipped in bleu cheese dressing, yes, so gross but soooo good!

All in all I would stay at White Pillars again in a heartbeat and have/will recommend to friends. We also hope to rent one of their other lodge houses as well when we head up North again.

“White Pillars is serene, clean, well appointed and welcoming.”

White Pillars is a serene, clean, well appointed and welcoming Bed and Breakfast - a 10 on a 10 in our book! We stayed in a beautiful room in the Craftsman Cottage overlooking a serene meadow next to White Pillars. Because we arrived later in the evening and had to dash out quickly for dinner, it was nice to be expected and encouraged to enter, drop our bags go about our plans as though it was our own weekend cottage. After a comfortable rest, the following morning we went over to White Pillars for a homemade and truly gourmet breakfast that was beautifully presented not to mention nutricious, hearty and delicious. We look forward to our return some day.

“White Pillars Inn- An Exceptional B and B Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2010

I have stayed at the White Pillars Inn fifteen times over the last 2 years. Donna and John Clark are always warm and welcoming hosts who make sure that my stay is comfortable. I have stayed in many of the rooms. They are all pristine and decorated in cozy North Country style with nice bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable. Donna and John take great care to make a truly delicious breakfast. The Inn is about 7 minutes from St Lawrence University and the town of Canton. The rural setting is beautiful and quiet. I would recommend this Inn to anyone traveling in the area. Easily the best B and B I have ever stayed in.

“Absolutley amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

This was easily one of the best getaways I have ever had! Donna and John were so accommodating to anything and everything you needed. They were all about your own enjoyment. They were both very kind and you felt as though you could talk to them for hours even though you had just met. The housing and rooms were gorgeous! As well as the views! They had everything you could ask for and more. Time seemed to stand still while you were there. Everything about it was perfect. I have already made plans to go back again with my boyfriend and we are bringing along with us another couple to stay in the room right across from us! We can't wait! I strongly recommend this as a place to stay, whether you're with the family, alone or with your partner! It's a stay you will never forget!

“Absolutely Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2008

My partner and I have recently stayed at White Pillars in Canton as well as the Raquette Lodge which is located in South Colton.

The first time we stayed was in September and we stayed in the Royal Suite. We were surprised to find such a lovely bed and breakfast in Canton NY. The room was lovely, the house was quiet and it was a very pleasant experience.

We have more recently stayed at The Raquette River Lodge in South Colton which is a lovely place as well. We will definately be back in the near future.

The hosts were lovely, and I couldn't have been more pleased.
