My husband and I actually stayed in June, 2003 as part of our honeymoon. And compared to our friends - who all had nightmares with bad flights, bad foods, and rained out beaches - we had a blast.
The Filigree Inn features four suites in a small building up the driveway from the owners' house, so it is very private. Each suite has a jacuzzi tub, bedroom, and living room/kitchen area with satellite TV (and a gas fireplace for winter months). You even have a small little deck area if you want to sit outside (at least we did in the "Madigan" Suite).
What makes this place wonderful for a private stay is that instead of having to be downstairs between X and Y am and sharing breakfast with strangers, you are instead provided with fixings in your kitchen to make your own breakfast. This was great for our honeymoon, since we could stay up or out late and not worry about missing breakfast or putting the owners out by showing up in the last five minutes. And there's a Wegmans nearby in Canandaigua, so you can always stock up on other items as well if you choose.
We think it is an advantage that it's not right on the lakes, as it is very quiet and very private. In the summer, you get the bonus of watching the hang gliders buzz around the mountain, which is entertaining. I'm not sure if the owners still do this, but because we stayed for about a week, they reduced our room rate a little bit as well. On the downside, though, you are convenient to Canandaigua, moderately convenient to Keuka (our favorite winery area), but it is a bit of a drive to Seneca and Cayuga, since you really have to take 5 across the top to access the winery trails. After a long day of wine tasting and a bit of sun, the distance does wear a bit.
The rooms were wonderfully pretty and clean - the only downside I saw (which may very well be changed), is that the bedrooms face east and our suite did not have heavy curtains. We were up at sunrise whether we wanted to be or not.
The owners do stay out of your way. We like that, but I know some don't. They are, however, helpful when you need them.
We completely recommend the Filigree Inn as a great honeymoon spot :D
