“this old anchor may rust on the outside, but on the Inn(side) it gleams like seaweed”
Ahh, the anchor inn. Was put up here by my business, so I was not expecting the four seasons, and judging by the hallways garage and elevator ("rusty" as another guests 6 yr old child called it) it certainly seemed so. However, the room itself was a pleasant surprise. Spacious (for NYC) big king bed, clean sheets and had that fresh smell to it, and brand new bathroom with new fixtures. Like most housing in New York, you cant judge a book by its cover; exterior looked rather bland, peeling carpet, narrow hallways and yes, the breakfast room was the size of a closet and not very appealing, but the room itself did the trick. The front desk seemed very helpful and attentive (uncommon for New York) yet the garage and parking was a little sketchy. The area is not all that bad, though be aware, anyone can gain access to the hotel by going through the back entrance through the garage and up the elevator, and the room card keys while of course do not have the individual room numbers on them, though do have the hotels name and picture right on them (though it is a very nice sparkling picture of the Inn) The guests seemed to be a range of business travelers, people apartment searching in the area, and yes, the occasional pay per hour couple; for the first time in my hotel ventures, sounds of the freak-nasty were heard in the hallway on my return to my room the last night, however once I shut the door to my room both that and the really loud reggeaton music employed as the wash over couldnt be heard, the walls are thick and so are the windows, as I never heard any sound from the outside very busy bell blvd. The prices are actually quite reasonable (for NYC) and id recommend it for budget travelers who will not be spending much time in there, (its not a resort, its a Inn, and how much time do you spend in the hallways or lobby anyway?)
the rooms are comfortable and clean, serves its purpose, I say, anchors away!
-p.s. for those never been to NYC, and thinking of a cheap alternative, bayside is NOT in manhattan, its not even close to a subway. If you think you can swing a cheaper hotel and still get the city, you will need a cab to get in which would run you the difference in hotel right there, or take the bus to cross the bridge, which you are looking at a hour. This caters to the airport, flushing park, the mets and the korean spa. Bayside is not exactly a stones toss to manhattan.
Room Tip: I had a corner room and there was no issue with outside noise
