“OK for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2010

Very ordinary, small room - pretty much what you would expect for this chain. The motel is located between a garden apartment complex and a strip mall, but it was fairly quiet at night except for some idiot who banged loudly on the door of one of the nearby rooms. Definitely not a place that I'd want to plan a vacation around, but OK for the 1 night that I needed to stay in the area.

“Roaches everywhere”

Please do not stay here. We live in NYC and was heading to long island for our friend's bbq. At the last minute, we decided to stay overnight so we could head to Robert Moses Beach in Long Island. This place had a room. Ok, its Econolodge so we didnt expect anything fancy and we were ok with that. However, we did not expect roaches in the fridge, in the bathroom and along the walls of the bedroom. We called the front desk and told them about the problem. He said he has no other room and he will refund us the money and we can go elsewhere. He later told us that he was just in that room and he did not see any roaches. Disgusting! We called other hotels in the area and most were booked but we did find something eventually and had a lovely stay there. STAY AWAY!

“Vacationers Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2008

Well, the pictures online look much better than it looks in person. Had no problem checking in. We went to our room, and just getting to our room had its problems. Room was located in an outdoor green carpeted area (similar to carpet in putt putt golf) and boy, did it smell. Wasn't sure if the smell was cat urine, or smoke, or something else! Our room left much to be desired. I am "ok" with older properties, but the quality of any updates or repairs was terrible. First of all, I open the microwave, and there were live ants inside. We had live ants in the spare double bed, between the sheets. There were a few live ants on the night stand next to our bed. The baseboard heaters had rust spots all over. The carpet seemed dirty. Even though we had a non-smoking room, there was a cigarette hole in the bedspread. We inspected the pillows and under the pillow case was a big tuft of someone's hair! Ugh! Sheets appeared clean. Shower floor seemed dirty (wore flip flops). Very little water pressure in the shower. There appeared to be prostitution going on in another room - don't know for sure, but from what we saw, we assumed. The continental breakfast was acceptable, but there were also some live ants on the counter top there. Only 3 tables in the breakfast room, can seat maybe 6-9 comfortably. The price was the only thing that was right about this place! I would NOT stay there again. It is AAA approved, which baffles me! We were travelling with 6 other couples, and they had even worse problems, such as problems with overflowing toilet, bathroom sink that leaked (buckets full) under the sink and onto the floor, etc. I feel bad to give a bad review, but perhaps it will serve to improve this Econo Lodge. Don't know if I would ever stay in another Econo Lodge without actually seeing my room first! Also, visible dust on the baseboards...........don't think they clean very thoroughly after guests leave.

“Please read before booking”

I feel obligated to report a short stay at this Econolodge. We originally booked the hotel based on its reasonable price and proximity to places on Long Island. I would not recommend staying here unless it is an emergency. The rooms were generally dirty, and in drastic need of updating. The wallpaper and ceiling were stained in places. The sink plumbing in our room failed and the toilet had a massive overflow in another room. There were ants in the microwave. There was a distinct urine smell in parts of the hotel as well. The sad part is that some simple TLC would go along way here and make the hotel acceptable. In its current state, it is not acceptable.

“Econo Lodge or Eco li Lodge? You be the judge...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2008

We stayed at this place out of desperation...it was over the July 4th holiday, for my husbands family reunion. Everywhere else was booked. Thank God all we needed was a place to lay our heads--on our own pillows!
Our room, #36, was the designated 'smokers' room w/ two double beds.
From the looks of the door jambs inside the room (entrance AND bathroom), it looked like the room had seen its share of bad news occupants. Both doors looked like they had been kicked in.
The arm rest on the loveseat had been slit in two places and all of the furniture was stained. The owner had made several amatuerish repairs to the room, like the hunk of wallpaper placed over the hole in the bathroom wall w/ a strip of duct tape.
The towels were even stained. The shower was so creepy dirty that we bought flip flops from the dollar store to wear while using it. Okay, so the truth is, we wore them in the room when we weren't showering or wearing our shoes, too.
Some other relatives had a room there, too, which they referred to as "The Hell Hole".
Entertainment came in the form of electronic and LIVE. The room boasted a large TV with about 100 cable channels. The LIVE entertainment came in the form of 6 and 8-legged critters, with and without wings--on a daily basis.
When we got home, even the clothes in our suitcases that we DIDN'T wear smelled of smoke and had to be cleaned.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so we have included several.

  • Liked — Location and price.
  • Disliked — Lack of maintenance. The place was run down and shoddy.
