“Under the big tree”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

Clanwilliam is the perfect base to explore the cedermountains. And the Saint Du Barrys is the perfect guesthouse to stay there. Among a huge fig tree, we found wonderful hosts, a nice cottage with perfect interior, an excellent breakfast and a grey parrot, named Ramius, which makes his comments to all guests. In spite of 42° C heat, our hosts could give us a lot of ideas for an itinerary, which was very interesting and makeable. And, just to mention it, you can reach a good restaurant nearby and the town centre by foot easily.

“amazing find in a place off tourists usual haunts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2010

It is worth visiting Clanwilliam just to stay in Saint du Barrys. Which we did for 2 nights, original intention being walking in Cederberg. However 46 degrees heat kept us in the garden or in an airconditioned bedroom.Joan and Wally were exceptional hosts and the multilingual grey parrot provided wonderful entertainment.Yet another b&b to which we would love to return and will.

“A fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2009

We travelled on the Intercape coach from Cape Town and arrived at Clan William at approx. Midnight. We were met by our host and hostess and driven to their Guest house. We were invited to have some refreshments, but declined as we were ready for bed! Our host and hostess couldn't have been kinder during our stay, nothing was too much trouble.
The room was very clean and had a comfortable bed. The mini bar was well stocked and there was a TV with freeview. The aircon was a a real boon in this hot summer.

“Ok for overnight stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

Stayed here as a convenient stopover travelling north to Namibia.

Centrally located in Clanwilliam. Accomodation comprises a series of terraced chalets with thatched roofs open to the eaves internally. Surrounds a attractive courtyard and garden area with lovely old tree in the centre. The room we were allocated was in our view badly configured. It comprised the main double bedroom on entry together with an adjacent single room which was of equal size and off this, a tiny bathroom. The size of the chalet with roof design had one air conditioner/heater located high up on the wall and designed to service both bedrooms. We visited on a cool August evening and frankly the system could not cope.

The double bed, bedding, table lamps and chairs all appeared new and the bed was very comfortable. Other decor such as curtains, wardrobe and artwork on the wall was much older and it was odd that this wasn't replaced at the same time. It therefore gave the room an uncoordinated/unfinished feel which was a shame.

Breakfast is served in the adjacent building and local produce used where possible. All of excellent quality. Opportunity to purchase jams teas etc offered during breakfast.

Overall the accomodation was satisfactory although the heating issue and decor mix prevented higher marking but acceptable for an overnight stay en route elsewhere..

Clanwilliam is one of the hottest place in the world in summertime. As such the air conditioning units in all our bedrooms and public rooms are designed to drop temperatures in rooms quickly and quietly.
All units a re new and serviced regularly.
In winter - August being winter- all units are set as heaters. We have overhead fans and windows to cool rooms on winter nights.
