“Flat tire and didn't make it to hotel, no mercy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

I made reservations thru Expedia for a one-night stay on my way home from taking my daughter to college. About 140 miles from Tucumcari, I got a flat tire. Called the hotel right away, about 7:45 p.m., explained the situation and that I wouldn't be able to make it because I couldn't travel the remaining distance on an undersized spare and it was too late to get a fix on the original tire. Clerk said to call Expedia. As soon as I was checked into a different Choice hotel in Moriarty, NM, called Expedia and they called the hotel on my behalf to check on a refund of my reservation. No go.
Called the hotel myself. No. Was told it had to do with the billing with Choice Hotels.
Called Choice Hotels, no billing on their part.
Called the hotel back on a weekday to talk to a manager. All this time I was very polite. He seemed frustrated that I was trying to pursue a refund of my stay that never happened due to a flat tire.
The moral of the story: if you make a reservation, it's guaranteed and it's after 6:00 p.m., you're paying no matter what happens to you on the way.

“Just what you need for overnight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

The room was large with comfortable beds, good lighting, refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was adequate. Denny's is next door. The toilet is very low - found this to be odd. We stayed at this hotel coming and going on our vacation.

“Horrible!!! Thick, choking smoke”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

Checked into our room. Not clean! No toilet paper. Had to go to the front desk to get it.
The front desk attendant acted "sorry", but we could tell he didn't really care.
There was duct tape on the corners where the carpet had worn. Large cracks in the tiles on the floor.
Worst of all was the cigarette smoke! It wasn't just mild or something we could ignore. It was VERY strong. All the doors along the hallway posted "NO SMOKING", including ours of course. However, after only a few minutes in our room, ,we started smelling a strong, cigarette smoke coming from under our door. We turned on the A/C to try to circulate the air and it immediately started a loud rattling noise and dust blew from the unit. Within 15 min our eyes were watering and we started to sneeze and cough. We felt like we were choking! We had no choice but to leave this place.
When my husband turned in the key at the front desk, the attendant apologized and only offered to move us (as if we would continue to stay there???)
So if you're looking for a non smoking room AND a clean hotel, THIS IS NOT IT!

A good basic hotel. Clean. You can walk next door to Dennie's. Owner at desk was pleasant and friendly.

“Clean, comfortable, quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2010

As you would expect from a budget hotel there were few extras. All I need from a budget hotel is a clean room, comfortable bed, quiet, and safe area. Econo Lodge provided all of this. Had enough TV channels, a small fridge, hair drier. Very good rate ($40). Only complaint I had was fridge made a slight humming noise, but it soon just became background noise and was not noticeable. Overall a good budget hotel experience.
